  1. I'm not banging on Ned for the Shouse decision, but why does it seem things go awry when he makes a move like that? THis is just brutal. I fully expect a WP/PB or balk to end this one.
  2. Give it away, give it away give it away now. Ugh. Just trying to be too quick. This team fades in the limelight.
  3. I thhought Ned was too cute by half there. Not a terrible decision, but a closer is a closer, and Shouse is Shouse. A loss here could be a crusher, A win could be equally as huge, but you don't want to waste all of the good that happened. I don't see it ending well, but I hope I'm wrong.
  4. Given the way just about every contender gets a full dose of other contenders coming down the stretch, it's hard to say what the "number" will need to be in terms of the wildcard, but it is an interesting question. Provided the Brewers play reasonably well, someone may need to get hot to pass them up. Not saying that can't or won't happen (and if it does the Brewers could be in trouble). I wouldn't be surprised if the number is in the 80s, but I have a feeling someone will get hot and take the thing by a margin that belies how good the race really was.
  5. What the heck does this mean? These places ARE Wisconsin. These places are the strength of Wisconsin, not something that makes it "suffer". Wisconsin is great because it has a very nice major hub like Milwaukee, one of the great small cities in America in Madison, and the diversity of several regional magnets that mean few places outside of the far Northwoods is really all that far from somewhere. Maybe Wisconsin's only weakness is that Milwaukee is sometimes so wrapped up in trying to be a "big city" and feeling like Chicago's little brother that it misses its connection with the rest of the state. To a certain extent, that distance is part of the reason that the Bucks, and to a much lesser extent, the Brewers, lag a bit behind the Badgers in these parts. Yes, for years the western part of the state was drawn to the Cities, due to the broadcast reach of communications in the age of limited cable and satellite options. But, for the most part, this is a state that is pretty proud of what it is, and is fiercely loyal to state teams. Eau Claire and LaCrosse and Wausau are the reason there is a dome on Miller Park. I can't honestly say who the biggest sstar is, but I'm fairly certain that Aaron Rodgers is the most recognizable "name", though not necessarily the most recognizable face, or most respected "talent".
  6. Until there are less than 15 games left in the season and the Brewers are more than 3 games out, I'm cheering against the Cubs. At this point the Brewer have the WC lead, and I expect them to keep the WC on of the strength their own efforts. That, and I simply can't stand the Cubs. To bend a phrase associated with Mayor Daley, I want them to lose early and often. As Mike Tyson says, I want them to fade to Bolivian. I don't want them in the playoffs. I don't want a single car driving north because some worthless season ticket holder figures he can sell his Game 3 NLCS tickets to a Cub fan, pocket a few grand, then go to games 4 and 5 and still proclaim himself a Brewer fan. I want to hear Ron Santo wailing "No! Oh, no!" and sobbing in the background as the Brewers clinch the division title and the Cubs fall behind in the wildcard race in New York on September 25. I'm a Brewer fan, and this is my short answer to the question.
  7. The one problem I have with the "this could help" theory is that I have yet to see this team be especially positive in anything other than the best of times. They have, on the other hand, showed a distressing propensity to be tight or otherwise negatively affected by negative situations far too often. Maybe they have, or will be able, to grow up and get past the negatives, but incidents like this tend to reinforce my feelings to the contrary.
  8. Yeah, it started in the series with the Astros.
  9. If this was a face-to-face situation, I'd be a bit more sympathetic to the "boys being boys" position. Prince ambushed a guy, plain and simple, which takes him from just being wrong to being dead wrong. Whether affixing blame in this situation means one darned thing in terms of how it is handled is another question.
  10. It's a big deal because all that had to have happened was for some guy to have spilled a cup of Gatorade there and we'd have 40% of the rotation out with ACLs. I don't care that there was no ultimate physical consequence to the incident. It was completely reckless. Not surprised (or even disagreeing) with the position Yost is taking, other than his attacking the press for asking.
  11. OK, so Ned just likened Adam McCalvey to a "rude neighbor" for asking a question about the incident? Maybe this part of the story needs to move to another thread.
  12. If Yost thinks he needs to sit, he should sit. But it might be that if Prince sits he starts to mope or grouse and that makes things worse. Say what you want about the management, but they are closer to these guys than we are and they need to judge the situation from their perspective. My detached perspective says he should take a day off (don't call it a suspension), but my vote doesn't and shouldn't count.
  13. Fights tend to fire everybody up, but I'd argue that this team needs something to settle them down. Or at least something that will teach them how to produce consistently better ABs and defense.
  14. It's obvious: Manny traded Aaron Rodgers to Prince in the Brewers FFL league and Prince has a little case of buyer's remorse.
  15. Prince is definitely POST-Madonna.
  16. Well, with the Favre-related press conference cancelled this evening, the Prince incident and the Brewers may actually get more press coverage than the Pack for about 5 minutes.
  17. First two guys work the AB, next two guys hack at first pitch. That's the Brewers.
  18. ANd now Weeks takes it to RF? THis could be promising . . . .
  19. That as not a 'Brewer AB' by Durham.
  20. Hittings homers with guys on base would require having guys on base more frequently.
  21. My thought, expressed in the Vent a few days ago, was that they would lose their composure in ATL. Just a few days off. Could sorta see something like this coming with the disgraceful display on Thursday.
  22. Fielder could have hurt somebody throwing his weight around like that. Don't care what was said, Fielder is in the wrong.
  23. OK, pure irresponsible speculation on my part, but I'd guess Parra said something along the lines of what we've all been saying.
  24. Difficulty maxed out for me sometime yesterday.
