  1. Can't wait to see the fielding in the next Cubs/'Stros series.
  2. Out at the local HS football game last night, I won the pool on predicting the final score once the Brewers got the 6-2 lead in the 7th. Out of 5 guys I was only the second-most optimistic.
  3. Have to think Rogers has a better than 50/50 shot at the win here.
  4. At worst it's attempted stupidity. To get legalistic, nobody relied on his false statements and nobody was damaged by them. Therefore, no civil or criminal liability for fraud. As noted above, that's not to say that MLB might no have something to say about it, to the extent that they have any power to act in this regard under the CBA.
  5. I really hope this team ends the season with the top 3 XBH guys in the NL, just so people will have something to remember the season by. To do that and only win 75 games (at their current pace) would be quite an accomplishment.
  6. Have to think that whoever took the under on the Brewers at 85 had no idea that they'd have it in the bank before the Packers played two regular season games.
  7. Which means he will go 7 innings, give up 3 hits, no runs and strike out 8... Only to watch the inevitable.
  8. I used to just love staying up a bit later for these Mountain/Pacific start times.
  9. Why do I feel like the Brewers have not been that efficient scoring 3 runs in an inning the entire season?
  10. Clearly what you want in a park is dependent on a lot of factors. MP is great for many reasons, not least of which is that it serves Brewer fans and their needs throughout the state of Wisconsin. If you're driving down from Wausau, you want the whole experience beyond just the game. In many ways, for many people, tailgating and pre-game socializing with friends after the long trip down is just as important as, if not more important than, the game. And even if the weather doesn't cooperate, you know you will, at the very least, have a game. I like Target Field a lot, but it's a whole different experience. If you come in the main gate next to the Target Center, it's pretty darned neat to see the ballpark just open up to you in a downtown, urban environment. You can't tailgate, but you can pre-game in the Warehouse District and the surrounding area. Believe it or not, not everyone is into tailgating and if you're one of those folks Target Field is set up pretty well in terms of having lots of places to go for food/entertainment. It's spendier, but again, some people don't mind the trade off. When I go up there I park for free and ride the light rail, which can drop you right at the gate. If I just want to watch a ballgame without really having a heavy rooting interest and without having to coordinate the trip with a group of folks or do a bunch of shopping and prep work, TF is the way to go.
  11. That shot of nothing in the bullpen but a bag of balls is an apt metaphor for something.
  12. While Ax and K-Rod have been the big problem, I don't think we should undersell the fact that there have been a fair number of occasions where other guys have acted as the set-up man for the opposition, taking a big deficit and turning it into a manageable one. There is failure enough for everyone to claim their piece. There are certainly problems of a technical nature going on here, but at the risk of angering the saber-gods, there is something mental going on with both sides in a lot of these games as well. The Brewers can be had in the late innings and the opposition knows it. They've seen the tape, know how to attack and the confidence of opposing offenses late in games is palpable. On the flip side, the Brewer pen has no answers and it seems like guys are just doing the same things over and over, hoping for better results and refusing to believe that this isn't 2011 anymore. This is more than just the opposite of the happy statistical coincidence of bunch of guys having career years. It reminds me in a lot of ways of the Packers in 2008. They were creeping along at 5-5, but there were problems with that team that became more and more apparent.. Later in the season everybody saw those problems and everyone exploited them and they finished 6-10. A lot of those losses late in games seemed to be 'unlucky', and to an extent they were, but the team was in a position where they had problems which had no immediate solutions and the opposition knew that if they just gave themselves a chance to win it late they probably would.
  13. Have to think that the conventional wisdom about "Replace everyone but Ax" over the winter is moving rapidly toward getting two words shorter.
  14. At this point a 'Help Wanted" ad in the JS couldn't hurt.
  15. Was watching Olympics. Switched over just as Morgan popped the bunt up. Sums up the season. Note to Cards fans: Let it go.
  16. Really good read from Tim Kurkjian on getting hit by a pitch. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8195515/what-feels-get-hit-pitch I really do believe that in this age where so much of the public perception of sports comes from watching on TV, and where so many get as much enjoyment out of thinking about/analyzing sports from an executive perspective, we forget just how intensely physical these games are at their core, especially for younger folks who have grown up in the video game age. Not everybody is able to get down really close at pro or high-level amateur games, but I wish sometimes that people would take greater advantage of going to see high school sports and DIII college stuff.
  17. Thanks again for the effort, pa. Guess nothing to talk about other than Not Front Row Amy.
  18. The greatest ovation in MP history would have occurred had RR run Braun out there to pitch after pulling Loe.
  19. If this happens, the best crowd reaction would be to just start laughing and pointing. Booing isn't sending the right message.
  20. Yes, walking guys has been a problem, but honestly, throwing strikes hasn't done the pen a lot of good, either.
