  1. Estrada did a decent job in place of Greinke early in the year, and they've pretty much kept him up with the big club all season for just this contingency. Until he pitches himself out of the start-spot role, he'll be picking up the work. Given how the Brewers tend to handle things, I have little doubt this is the case.
  2. The other Central battle between CLE and DET is also in free baseball mode. 2-2, 10th.
  3. I think Gomez catches that. He'd be a nice addition if he can make it back. Edit: Not a slam on Morgan at all. Gomez is just one of about 3 guys who could make that play.
  4. That Qdoba light-board ad is pretty bright. Time to file a grievance.
  5. Way to go Casey! Why was Berkman so shallow? He's not gonna make that play anyway on a short sinlge.
  6. Please no double play. Please no double play. Please no double play. Please no double play. Please no double play.
  7. Braun has taken 2 size-5 collars in just a few days. Don't see that very often.
  8. Good for Hawkins. Tonight's extra baseball is brought to you by Milwaukee's defense. Thanks Brewers defense!
  9. I'm not saying the sky is falling at all. BUT, when you compare the Brewers to the Phillies and Giants, they simply don't seem to stack up. They're on a roll, but other than the StL series at home, they have played cupcakes. They got killed by good competition from the AL. They are still very bad in terms of road record. They are awful on defense. They have some hot hitters right now, but they still have more potential holes than the teams that the media sees as real contenders. I'm not saying the Brewers can't compete. I'm just saying it's not too hard, if you aren't a full-time Brewers fan, to wonder if they really have the chops to compete with the Giants or Phillies.
  10. When you wonder why the national media don't take the Brewers all that seriously as a post-season threat, you need only look at games like tonight and the generally abysmal performance of the NL Central teams in recent play-offs. Hard to think the 1-18 playoff run is a fluke. Not a bad team, but there is nothing that makes it seem like they are good enough, either.
  11. WHAT was that? Hilariously bad defense on a team that is 15 over .500.
  12. Said it before, say it again: Marcum = bulldog. No idea what the training staff is thinking in not even taking a trip out there. Maybe they didn't want to break his concentration on the inning, but still . . .
  13. The ump was in perfect position to make that call. It's little things like that that make all the difference on a play like that. Simply being in position is way underrated and not always that easy to accomplish.
  14. Looks like somebody may have read this thread. (You have to read the whole thing). http://www.grantland.com/...-advanced-pitching-stats
  15. Given how well everyone seems to be going right now, getting sweep would be very disappointing and would likely feel like they've fallen off a cliff. I'll be OK with them winning just one game, provided they continue to play good baseball and in the losses they just get beat by a team that just played better. That said, if they somehow come out of STL up 4 or 6 games, it should be a really fun time at MP when they get back for a 7-game homestand against teams that are reeling right now.
  16. And yet, because the Astros split a 4-game series at STL while the Crew was beating the Cubs, the Brewers have a 3 game lead instead of being only 1 up. Did Pence ad Bourn matter that much?
  17. Projecting forward from that graphic, Greinke will have a 40+ pitch inning in the 4th.
  18. You can't fight human nature I guess. OK, calling it right now: 18-0 win, Greinke no-hitter.
  19. Just on principle I'm hoping the Astros pitch around Prince here. At some point enough bad baseball is enough.
  20. If Altuve were just 5 feet tall he may have gotten to that/
  21. Of course, if Lopez swings away there is a fair chance Prince never hits that inning. Enjoy the fact that Prince is unreal.
  22. I'm guessing this has nothing do to with the lineup today, but I'm assuming the little limp Casey had after the game-ending play at 3rd last night was just one of those tamporary knocks that's no big deal? I honestly don't have that much of a problem with the lineup today, given the fact that it's been announced loud and clear that these are the guys on the roster and they will all be counted on to do something at some point. From that persepctive, Kotsay needs some ABs and Casey needs a day off so Counsell gets some work. With both Hart and Weeks out it's not like there are really overwhelmingly great options anyway. Just win the thing and move on to STL. I have no problem putting some of the pressure on ZG here. Not like they're asking him to shut down the Red Sox or Yankees.
