Upon further reflection, I don't much like the Brewers chances in a low-scoring game either.

Is it just foolishness on my part ot hope that this is a low-scoring game? Because I don't know if I like the Brewers chances in this one if it isn't.

Nice cheer by the Rockies fans at the end of the game. Part of me thinks the cheer was a much an expression of relief that they didn't have to watch Milwaukee play any more baseball tonight as it was being happy about a Rockies victory.

Without Marcum it probably wouldn't matter that much who plays 3rd this season.

Stealing signs doesn't explain all the purely fundamental breakdowns in every other facet of the game. Yeah, yeah, it's probably all just my subjective imaginings.

The staff should just try to get opposing hitters to rope stuff to center. It's the best shot the Brewers have defensively.

Since Memorial Day the Crew have won one road series for a 1-5 series record. Unless they win the next 3 (barring divine intervention tonight) the best they will be is 1-5-1 getting out of Denver.

It hurts to say this, but 4-7 wouldn't really bother me that much becase I think the probablity of doing worse than that greatly exceeds the probability of doing better.

Well, at least it's nice to get the post-break irrational exhuberance out of the way early so that I can settle back into a much more comfortable cynical snarkiness.

I don't really think there is more to the story, unless it's on the Mets end. The Mets needed to move K-Rod. They weren't going to move him in their own division, both because they probably wouldn't want to and nobody there really needs to make that move. No real fit for him in the NL West. So it's likely the Brewers were only competing against a precious few AL teams for K-Rod. There may not have been much competition at all.

A couple of points: First, why shouldn't K-Rod finish some games? Think about it. You now have the ability to use Axford say 3 days in a row and still have a quality closer to bring on on day 4 if need be. This isn't a question of NEVER using K-Rod as a closer. It's just about being smart. I have no doubt Ax is the first option at closer. Now they have another option when they need to go there. they will be able to use Hawkins, Saito and Loe in a much more targeeted way. They aren't going to put themselves in position for the option to vest. And they'll keep themselves far enough away from the number to make sure they'll still have the option to use K-Rod as a finisher late in the season. But if you have x number of games to play with, you may as well use them if you need them. That's why you make a deal like this. Second, as much as there have been problems with the pen losing games, a lot of that also falls on the offense to a certain extent. There have been quite a number of games this season in which the offense has simply not supported good/great starts with enough add-on run production. Other than the recent 6-1 debacles this hasn't been a team prone to blowing huge leads. They've just put themsleves in a lot of coin flip situations. They've been very good in the 1-run games. When they've lost late they've lost games where they give up big innings and thus don't skew their own 1-run game stats. Unless K-Rod turns out to be a horrible fit in the clubhouse, or simply fails on the mound, I don't see how this move has any down side for Milwaukee.

At times like this it's actually more fun reading other boards. Not more informative, more fun.

Guessing the events of tonight mean McClendon probably won't be seeing the ML roster until September, barring injury replacement duty.

The Twins aren't getting rid of Thome. Don't see how he's be an easy pickup. Even if he were, he's not a good fit as an NL bench player. He's a DH. Period. He could play first in a pinch, but that's it. Good guy. Bad fit.

So the only drama left is whether Prince gets booed for being MVP.

No kidding. I thought bringing up the Tucson incident might have been a bad call. I guess it wasn't terrible, but on the heels of the booing, and Buck's subdued delivery, the whole thing just set a somber mood to what is supposed to be a celebration. And hey, let's throw cancer into the mix! If you have to bring it up, pay homage to the lost, but then celebrate the survivors and hope that we can beat these things in the future.
