  1. Not being willing to lower prices actually helps the scalpers. Scalpers now know that they can't be undercut. If anything, there is an incentive for the scalpers to get in early. If demand for a given game gets high they will actually be able to undercut the ticket office and still make a very nice profit.
  2. Starting to buy the Prince as MVP thing. May win it on defense alone.
  3. Who is this "Rickie Weeks" of whom you speak? I didn't hear him mentioned either, though the whole AB can and went in a blink.
  4. Thanks, dlk9s. I figured it wasn't just me. The sad thing to me isn't just the amount of booing, but the nature of it. A lot of times you get the almost good-natured booing of your rivals, or a guy who is a nemesis for your team, etc. It just seemed like this was almost mean-spirited at times.
  5. Anybody else really turned off by all the pre-game booing? I understand some booing, but it was about 10-1 in terms of boos/cheers. Be happy you even got the game, Arizona.
  6. I noticed that the other day too when I was looking things up related to the second half schedules. Obviously not very many teams have led their divisions at the break with a negative run differential. Looking back over recent history, the truly amazing stat was Washington being 52-36 on this date in 2005 with a -4 run differntial. That's pretty impressive. They finished the year 81-81 and in last place in the NL East. In '06 Oakland was only 2 games over with a -14 differential. They held on to win the division by 4 games with a +44 differential.
  7. This couldn't be more overproduced if they tried. I'm lying about watching it on my Neilson forms.
  8. At what point in any of the publicly-available information was a PCL injury mentioned? I read about inflammation near/around a tendon near the back of the leg, but that is much different than a PCL injury both in terms of severity and course of treament.
  9. Comparative Schedule Information: MIL: 70 games remain. 43 divisional games (28 (13 rd) vs contenders) 34/36 Home/Road Split. STL: 70 games remain. 47 divisional games (31 (18 rd) vs contenders) 38/32 Home Road Split. PIT: 72 games remain. 47 divisional games (31 (10 rd) vs contenders) 35/37 Home/Road Split CIN: 70 games remain. 34 divisional games (18 (12 rd) vs contenders) 37/33 Home/Road Split. Games vs PHI/ATL/SF/AZ: Mil (11 total, 7 Road) Pit (14, 14R) StL (7, 4R) Cin (10, 0R) All 4 contenders play the Cubs/Astros about the same number of times, but the Reds have significantly fewer direct matchups with the teams ahead of them in the standings. The Brewers will either turn around their road woes or fall out of contention. Pittsburgh has quite a row to hoe outside the division. On the other hand, they have a 2-1 home/road split in their favor in terms of games versus their direct competitors in the divsion. Cinci, while not having as many shots at direct competitors may be able to gain ground outside the division as 26 of their games outside the division will be against likely non-contenders and those against contenders are all at the sweaty bandbox. St Louis appears to be in good position. While the majority of their head-to-head matchups versus divisional competitors are on the road, they have a the best home/road setup and many of their home games will be against non-contending teams. Given the way the schedule falls right after the break (Miwaukee's long road trip and the Pirates ATL/PHI guantlet), the story lines of what needs to happen for each team should be in much better focus by the first week in August.
  10. I'm not sure you can get a major league level player for Casey McGehee at this point on a one-for-one basis. Almost certainly not a player that you'd want as an everyday player. The only way it happens is if there is a fire sale going on somewhere, but even in a fire sale the seller is still going to take the best offer. Hard to see Casey being anybody's best offer in anything.
  11. They aren't scalping. Practical concerns virtually require that they set fixed prices for their tickets in order to mximize revenues. They will attempt to set those prices as close to what the market value of those tickets will be on game day. (You already see this at work in how "premium series" are priced.) No matter how well those prices are set, there will always be a difference between the two. They are just attempting to capture more of the difference between the fixed price of tickets and their actual value in the marketplace, rather than completely ceding those revenues to speculators. If the Brewers are willing to sell tickets for less than "face value" when the market so dictates, they are doing fans a service by undercutting speculators, making scalping a bit more risky and thus less attractive in the long run. In theory the Brewers should be better situated to take on the risks associated with dynamic princing than are individual speculators. These advantages are currently outweighed by the advantages speculators curretnly have in being able to respond more quickly and efficiently to consumer demands. As technology improves, and it will, clubs will be better able to employ dynamic pricing systems. As well they should.
  12. Funny that the JSOnline headline reads "Counsell's clutch hit in ninth lifts Brewers over Reds" when Rosiak's game story accurately begins "Craig Counsell walked out of Miller Park on Sunday afternoon still in the midst of an 0-for-28 slump, and yet he couldn't have been happier." Nice job editors/headline folks. Since it all worked out for the best we'll let it slide.
  13. Maybe it was intentional maybe it wasn't. It surely wouldnt be a rational move to make, but pressure, frustration and emotion have combined to make even very steady folks do stupid, irrational things that they immediately regret. To say it was intentional does not mean it was necessarily malicious in the sense he wanted to hurt somebody. Nobody will ever really know his intent. Cordero may not even know, being caught up in the moment and then rationalizing it after the fact. In the moment it looked intentional. Not a head shot, but a HBP. It doesn't make sense, but lots of stuff doesn't make sense. That's what makes the world interesting.
  14. I don't believe it was an ordered hit on Ricky or even a rational strategy move. It was just anger and some sort of twisted thought in Cordero's head that hitting Ricky didn't matter. I don't think he meant to hit him in the head, but I think he meant to hit him well above the waist and it got away up just a bit.
  15. That may be one of the weakest SF I've seen in a while. Take it and run like a thief!
  16. Kotsay worth every one of those 47 million career dollars.
  17. topper, you get a score multiplier for degree of difficulty.
  18. Until the Brewers simply make good plays on defense I can't say peep about good/great defense played against them. They trotted out a lineup that got handled by Dontrelle Willis today. It may as well have been Mark Fidrych. They're staring at a sub-.500 homestand to be followed by a long west coast roadie. Staying in 3rd (and out of 4th) place by the time they return home could be a challenge.
  19. This is what Loe does. He's like the Brewers in general. When he's good, you see things that aren't there and ignore the obvious problems hiding just beneath the surface.
  20. Wisconsin's own Jordan Zimmerman continues to light it up for the Nats. His ERA is down to something like 2.52 after today's shutout win, with a K/BB of better than 4 and his last 3 losses being 2-1, 2-1, and 1-0. Tough to get much attention playing with the Nats.
