  1. Please, please make me wrong. And don't just drag it out to the 10th or 11th before sticking a fork in me.
  2. Yeah, but 100 pitches has 3 numbers and the others only have 2. Prediction: 3 more pitches to the walkoff.
  3. I have a sinking feeling that we see a walkoff in the next 5 minutes. And it will spark a nosedive to take a potentially very nice roadtrip into the hellish variety. I really want to be wrong, but I'm in pessimism mode right now.
  4. This is already in my head as an L and it's driving me nuts.
  5. You see, they're called "relief" pitchers. They're there to offer relief to a starting pitcher who needs some help. I know that's changed just a bit in modern baseball, but it hasn't changed so much that they aren't still called relief pitchers. If Narvy hadn't given up a hit he would still be in the game. I don't know what in the calculus changed to make it seem like taking him out, without even allowing him to maybe get in trouble with the first batter, was in any way a good idea. Now you've basically traded Narveson for Estrada.
  6. I don't get this at all, and I'd say the same thing if KRod had a three-pitch inning.
  7. It's an unfortunate still photo. In no way does anyone pass in a live-action situation.* * certain exceptions always apply
  8. I almost got in a fight with another youth soccer coach a couple years ago over this. It was a no slide-tackle league for 7 and 8 year olds and he had obviously taught his kids to go in hard. Don't know why the comment reminded me of that,
  9. Is it possible to bet an over/under on outs on the basepaths in a given game? Working on a new retirement plan.
  10. So Mother Nature killed my power and I couldn't even get the radio to come in until after the first. I take it I missed something good. Folks in Point and Rapids areas: Get ready for a deluge.
  11. To be precise, he threw it away on what would have been an infield hit anyway. So he gave up an extra base, rather than an out.
  12. Yeah, I'm not going to say Wolf pitched great, because he didn't. But there is a weird dynamic to the whole appraisal process that goes on sometimes. Wolf is what is he. Better he pitch to contact than make things worse by issuing tons of walks. And he did it against the best HR team in the NL. None of it matters when your own team can't score.
  13. I'm not talking about his typical line. I'm talking about the games he's gotten smacked around. When 2 ER in 7IP is a bad thing I guess I don't know what to say. At some point the result is all that matters.
  14. The consensus is that Wolf was lucky tonight, and yet when Greinke gets hit just as hard (granted he does have more impressive stuff and the Ks to show for it), half or more of the board talks about how *unlucky* he was.
  15. If you want the Brewers to be competitive every year, I'm assuming you're including this season. In the history of the franchise this is one of the most competitive seasons they've had, warts and all to date. So why would they "sell", as that term is generally used? Now, if they could find a way to make a daring move that would help them both now AND in the future, it may be worth considering. But even then you risk so much in terms of disrupting the team as currently constructed that a move gone bad, even if well thought-out, would bring a lot of questions simply because it went against the conventional wisdom.
  16. Wow. Just another statistical oddity for the Crew. All these one run wins, yet all these bullpen losses as well. Huge bounceback after the opening 2 of the series.
  17. I don't understand why they couldn't have experimented more with Wilson earlier. Would be nice if he had more ABs by this point to help in decisionmaking.
  18. Late 80s back at County Stadium we had Carney Lansford laughing his behind off one night. We drove the 3 hrs down to the game, had an extended tailgate and then the game didn't start until after 9:00 due to weather. Since about 1500 people stuck aroudn for the game they allowed us to go sit down right along the rail by the Oakland dugout. Best time I ever had at a Brewers game.
  19. If you generalize about women's sports you generally end up feeling like a huge dope when you have a daughter that plays varsity sports in HS. Either that or you just end up being a miserable parent. Japan played great the whole WWC. Deserved to be in posiion to win the game. Let's find a way to win this, Crew.
  20. Is it any less logical than assuming that these guys all operate as independent variables? I tend to believe that the outcome of one variable does influence the outcome of others to a statistically significant degree in this case. Now, that is not the same as attributing characteristics to an entire team. But it does tend to muck up the numbers a bit. I don't think that the road record, by itself, is stunning. The simple way they appear to play the game on the raod, as opposed to how they appear to play in Miller Park, is. Maybe it's just an illusion and our perceptions are greatly skewed by self-selective bias, but that's an awfully tough sell for most.
