  1. Just by my quick review of Power boxes for the last 10 games, going into the 9th inning tonite, I count 102 base hits! That is an absolute ton! = just took it a little further....from May 16 thru May 31, 16 games the Power have 185 hits (11.56 per game) and 123 runs (7.6875) per game! These guys can hit!
  2. I think part of what's going on with Zach and maybe even Inman last year, is that these guys are 19yrs old, and I think with Zach, actually reported to Arizona back at the end of January. This is there first season of any constant pressure on their arms, and both he and Inman are strikeout pitchers who throw a lot of pitches.....look at it this way, with 59 strikeouts even if you only 4 pitches per strikeout, your talking 236 pitches....which is two good full outings just with strikes! I would think his arm has to be feeling it! When you consider these guys are held on a pretty strict pitch count early, the guys with gaudy K numbers have to build up the strength that comes with the stress of lots of pitches! Here's hoping the rest does him the same good it did Wil last year!
  3. Following link shows some details of the pitching changes here in Charleston. Jeremy Jeffress is added to the WV roster while Zach Braddock misses a couple more starts from what John Curtis says is "a mild case of tendenitis". www.dailymail.com/story/S...oin-Power/
  4. While I was listening to tonites Power game, Bull stated that Omar Aguilar reached 100 on the gun tonite.....I've been watching this guy relieve in Charleston and knew he was throwing bullets, but triple digits I did not expect....maybe another arm to keep a close eye on!
  5. Guys....as the jinxer from last nite, I want to offer my opion, and my apologies! I went out to dinner last nite to return in time to check the box, and was amazed at what our Power guys were doing against the hottest other team in the league...when I looked at the thread I didn't really that anyone else was paying attention, and I also figured pitch count would kill it....I am a "rookie" to the board only logging in last year to follow Angel, Lorenzo, Darren and Co. With Braun and Thatcher staring up at the bigs, we guys in Charleston are staring at our first big leaguers in only 3 years affiliated with the Brewers! We are excited, and unaware of "unmentionables" within the board. I applaud the discussion, because I wouldn't have committed the faux paux of last nite had I realized the tiptoe rule was in effect! Serving as host family for Zach Braddock here in WV this season also keeps me extremely interested in the board and you guys opinions on the talent here in WV. I am a 42 year old CPA/baseball junkie, and since the brew crew has been here in our new ballpark, I get to relive some of my childhood passion watching these guys live theirs....Anyhow, again accept my apology for the mention of the taboo words last nite!
  6. Power is up 7-0 after sending 11 to the plate in the first, and Zach Braddock struck out the side....nice 1st inning!
  7. McClendon's no - hit effort has gone complete through eight with no hits and 2 walks as the only blemish....he is over 100 pitches now though....Power is up 8-0!
  8. "I'll hold my I told you so's until after he puts up some numbers, but I think Joe is "big league ready" from both a skills and maturity standpoint! " That was from a March 16th post I made in a Thatcher discussion....I guess he's still doing what he did in WV, Hawaii, and hopefully will continue what he did in Huntsville in Nashville and .....who knows! I guess at this point I can dust off the "I told you so!"...
  9. Pogo: Trust me, you haven't gotten to see the fun that the Power speed can create yet! Yes, Mojica, Brewer and Ford are fast, but the Power only had 6 base runners yesterday.....wait till you see what happens when all those guys reach base in the same inning or two! It truly is entertaining! Some of the best fun I've ever had at a ballpark is watching the pitcher and shortstop when two of these guys are on base, and one is at the plate! Enjoy your day, and bring us a win this time please!
  10. Zach Braddock didn't give up any runs in his first two outings, but he did have 8 walks. In the 27.1 innings since those first two games, 40 k's and 5 walks! Seems like when he has given up a run, the opposition has just been able to string together a couple hits around one of those few walks. Watched him pitch today, and he was well in control through all 5 innings. He has also been fouled off quite a bit which I'm sure is running up his pitch count keeping his innings fewer.
  11. Alright guys....I have to say after watching the treat that is the Power for a month now, I've got one question.....Where's the love for Darren Ford. Here are the stats.....going into today .352 (.321 vs righty, .367 vs Lefties) 18 Stolen bases in 19 games, OBP .408 SLG .455 OPS .863.....then today 2 for 3 with a HR, stolen base #19. From the leadoff spot, my guess from watching him this year and last is he is being instructed to use his speed more which he is doing through numerous bunt attempt, some real, some imagined (in the opposing teams mind) remember guys, the man is only 21 and granted he has a logjam above him in the outfield, 6.11 60 speed is impossible to find in the game right now. I know you are going to respond that 28 k's in 88 AB's doesn't get it from a leadoff man, but when the man is on base (.408 OBP) he frightens the opposing pitcher, catcher, and shortstop into ridiculous throwing errors, and doesn't hesitate to take third right after stealing 2nd.....I have never seen one man make the opposing team alter their game and get inside their head as much as Ford has this season....somebody throw this guy a little love!
  12. Fantastic Job Zach! 10 ground outs, 8 strike outs and 0 walks seems like one helluva evening to me! 20 strikeouts and 0 walks in the last two outings....seems like a good followup in WV to Yo and Inman! Brewers should have one fantastic bunch of young arms someday!
  13. What I heard on the brawl is that McLendon threw behind Jamie Romak who had earlier hit a HR. Romak started towards the mound and Andy Bouchie (catcher) stepped in front of him Romak took a swing and Bouchie pushed back...then the benches emptied. Romak, Bouchie, McLendon and another Hickory player all ejected....I also saw that Romak got thrown out by Caufield the day before on a tag at the plate where martin maldanado was a couple steps up the line....so Romak seems to be involved in a lot around the plate the last couple days....I don't think Hickory and WV care all that much for each other over thee last couple years. Power still wins #11 in a row!!!!
  14. After talking with Zach, he says he can bring it 91-92 but generally is in the 87-88 range.
  15. After watching the power steal 5 bases last nite, I found myself taking note of something else that this kind of speed we have here in WV does....it makes not only pitchers but also all the infielders very nervous! These guys have 32 stolen bases over 13 games, and Ford got third almost standing up last night! Brantley and Ford were both here last year, but add Brewer Caufield and Mojica, and there is no such thing as a routine double play ball in Charleston. Infielders are BADLY throwing away easy plays (2 errors on the SS last nite), and pitchers get that aw shucks(edited for proper posting) look on there faces when any of this crew gets on base. I don't think I have ever seen a pitcher and a shortstop any more nervous and uptight as the guys from Hickory last nite. I guess you could say, pun intended, the Power have now "run off" eight in a row!
  16. Follow up on the 12K nite from Zach Braddock...someone asked "what does he throw?" I spoke to Zach at the park tonite about his outing yesterday, and he said 9 of the 12 punchouts came on fastballs. Said all he throws is primarily fastball, slider and change. Working on his location, and eliminating walks which he did last nite!
  17. Braddock pitched a fantastic game...keeps the ball down, eliminated the walks, and had 12 K's....not a bad game for a 19 yr old! We serve as his host family here in Charleston and he is a fine person on top of a load of pitching talent! Fantastic evening!
  18. Gross as it may be, it came with two more stolen bases tonite, that's 5 in 2 days back from the DL! Michael Brantley also stole second and third on 3 pitches giving him 4 on the early year! It's great to be in WV where the outfielders run fast and the pitchers seem to climb out of here even faster (ie. YO, Inman and Thatcher the last 2 years!)
  19. I watched Thatcher in WV while he was here last year. "sturdy framed" thick legged guy that has a delivery that is not quite three quarter arm but looks pretty close. Throws hard and seems mature enough to understand how to pitch and not just throw. He's been one of the more dominant bullpen arms I've seen come through single A here. He was my pick behind Inman and Yo to get to the bigs, but I guess he proved me somewhat wrong!
  20. Has anyone heard anything at all on Angel Salome this spring? I have been trying to find out how his recovery is coming but have been unable to find anything at all. Any info would be appreciated!
  21. If I remember right, I talked to him at the start of his time in WV and he slipped and fell I think in the tub or shower right before camp broke and hurt himself...rib or something I think which is what brought about his time in WV.
  22. I was just reviewing the spring stats: Irribarren .429 2 HR 12 RBI in 28 at bats....Braun .458 4HR 11 RBI in 25 at bats....What is up with Hernan!? 3 for 4 yesterday from the lead off slot....am I seeing things that really didn't happen?
  23. I'll hold my I told you so's until after he puts up some numbers, but I think Joe is "big league ready" from both a skills and maturity standpoint!
  24. 1. Angel Salome: Absolute cannon for an arm. Watch how we bounces back from a really severe injury. 2. Joe Thatcher: Tore up the Hawaii league. 3. Lorenzo Cain: The older he gets the better he'll be. 4. Darren Ford: Fast as the wind...watch out as hit BA improves! 5. Wil Inman: If he can do in high A and AA this year what he did in WV, he's the real deal! Can you tell I live in Charleston WV? These guys are great athletes, and really good people as well!
  25. Thanks for the work on the list....it is fantastic! The only one that I think "got left out" is Joe Thatcher. His work in Hawaii this fall was incredible, he's a big lefty (6' 3" 225) with a delivery that is a little out of the average, and he is 25 years old....he has a very strong base (physically), and I think he will be next in line to the bigs behind Yo and Braun...maybe just Yo! Thanks for giving me "winter entertainment!"
