  1. Anyone else notice Caleb's got the average up over .300? I haven't been around the board much, but seems like he's havin a pretty solid season and I've not seen much discussion about him at all. Hit .217 in April, .240 in may but over .350 in July and August!
  2. On the positive side of that, Braddock did work out of the inning with two on by striking out Bay and Ike Davis. Watched Davis take bp and that guy can hit a baseball. Watched Zach pitch, and he seemed to get the fastball hit at around 93, but was good above that. They were leaving him out there to take his beating, and he closed it out well! I think he looks good in the Brewer uni, and can't wait for him to settle in!
  3. Has anyone else noticed besides me, but the guy hasn't even walked a batter! I know you can say jinx on that very quickly, but Zach has just been superb! I say give him a shot, and do it soon!
  4. Trust me guys, Zach is not fragile, it just took a couple years to diagnose his ailment. He has closer mentality, and can dominate with his stuff! Its just when you only have to go an inning or two, its easier to mentally dominate your opponent, and Zach can be intense!
  5. Josh: I absolutely loved the article! Darren, Lorenzo, and Michael are three of my favorite guys to pass through Charleston, and Lorenzo actually shares birthdays with my 8 year old son Jonathan (April 13), so he is a favorite of my boy. Always made me think Eric Davis from the first day I saw him launch one off the scoreboard in left center on the "money ball" in bp. Anyhow your "journalism" just brings a little "authentic insight" to your profession for those of us on the outside! Keep it up! ps...no April fool's day joke, really loved it! lol
  6. Has nobody been watching Braddock this spring? He picked up a 2 inning 8th and 9th inning W today after getting a 9th inning save last time out. Gave up a double in the ninth today, but back to back strikeouts should have got him out of the inning but 2nd baseman came up with an error before Zach got a lineout to end the game. I'd like to hear some thoughts from you guys on Zach this season?
  7. My top five would go like this: 1. Zach Braddock: This guy has been putting it up, and has a certain "magic" about him when you see him pitch...he's still young, but it's his turn! 2. Angel Salome: Make it or break it time.....he's had the bat, I think it's time to give him a chance. 3. Jeremy Jeffress: Too much of a talent to give up on 4. Steffan Wilson: Hitter that has been forgotten for the most part, I think he'll be just fine 5. Caleb Gindl: Solid player top to bottom, he cuts down on the k's and watchout!!
  8. After listening to Bull for the last 5 years, I for one will truly miss his calls! Not just the jack-jackety-jack, but all that he added to a game. He called an incredible game solo, and added lots of interesting things to the call of a ballgame and never, never came off as self serving or impressed with his self. As a guy that grew up on the calls of Nuxhall and Brenneman, I am rather paticular about how i like to hear a baseball game, and Bull was spot on for me! Thanks for your contributions to the WV Power over the years, we will truly miss you, and I hope your career becomes the jack-jackety-jack you so deserve!
  9. I think that some day, Braddock stays healthy like many of you aren't sure about, he can be an ace. But the guy is 22 years old, had TJ in high school, has not had a sustained period of good health since he started his progression up the ladder, so what's wrong with letting him be a long arm out of the bullpen and be a very dominant bridge to a closer? I'm not saying forever, but with the exception of Yo, the Brewers have had some very nice young arms pass through the prospect farm, and not really looked at them as guys that need a "big league trial". They traded away, Thatcher, Inman, Bryson for example and those guys could have been good bullpen help....heck, Thatcher has been for a couple years on and off with the Padres (although Inman is a starter). Please dont pick my comments apart on this, I'm just trying to say Zach, when he is on is A. dominant B. only 22 years old and C. deserving of a big league shot after the AFL...so why not use him as a pen guy, when he throws 100 innings, think about moving him back to the rotation? Jonathan Lucroy's comment in an article I read earlier about Braddock throwing an "invisiball" is one I have heard personally from several guys that have pitched with him. He is all arms and legs, and very hard to pick up the ball on...I say bring him up and lets see what hes got if he has a good spring!!
  10. I can tell you that all of us, especially from someone who watched the Brewers minor league Prospects from Braun, to Yo, to Matt LaPorta, Michael Brantley, Jeremy Jeffress, Zach Braddock, and Angel Salome, have many of our own personal opinions...heck, my opinion on the Lucroy/Salome debate has kept me quiet and lurking in the shadows since the young Crew left town here. But those things are just like certain anatomical parts, and none of them are wrong....so why does an opinion EVER need to be challenged? I think we should have a new rule, that if a poster starts a post with "THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION BUT", it cannot be quoted, debated, or discussed any more! Sometimes I think, from a guy who used to have first hand opinions from watching guys proabably 3 or 4 years before some of you have the opportunity, its a shame that certain folks can not take OPINIONS as one man's first hand account, and let it go.
  11. Have any of you guys followed Cole Gillespie in the AFL? Check him out.
  12. Why not indeed...quick comparison of catchers this season AB AVG R HR RBI SB Kendall 452 .241 48 2 43 7 Rivera 114 .228 10 2 14 1 I'm sorry guys, but in my view Salome or Lucroy either one, could have done not much worse!!!
  13. Braddock picks up his third consecutive save in a perfect ninth....two ground balls and a strike out swinging to finish things off. Now has his ERA in the AFL below 1.00
  14. Guys, I have followed Braddock from the start, and many of his issues the first two years, had to do with the same undiagnosed/misdiagnosed issue. I guess he had blisters this year too, but I think you sometimes the talk is that he is just as frail as a rubber band waiting to break, but I don't think that's the deal. This year if his health is an issue, I may change my view, but I think he is much more durable than given credit for.
  15. I guess I have to confess, I base my opinions of these guys on what I see when they passed through Charleston. Each year, I usually very quickly get a view of the guys that I think have the talent, and quite often it's not the guys that have the hype. That being said, most of my guys are nearly the bigs right now, or have already been there. I have a few who haven't developed where I thought they'd be...but many of them aren't in the Brewers organization including Bryson and Joe Thatcher....also Eric Fryer who is one that I thought would follow the Matt Laporta path, just a year or two later. But Braddock, Angel, Bryson, and Gindl have been "my guys" that me and my family developed friendships with. I hope all these guys reach their dreams....I'm just like the rest of you, I have my favorites, but until last year, I have seen all of them play, and continue to follow and travel to see some of them still play.
  16. Braddock picks up his second save in last two appearances. I think the bullpen is a good place for Zach. He is big, lefthanded, and all arms and legs in his delivery which makes the ball difficult to pick up when you don't see him much. His injury issues have really been just one injury that was never properly diagnosed in my opinion....that's why the AFL stuff as kind of an "extended season" for him excites me. He had TJ in high school, but I think those problems aren't a player any more. I agree, if he stays healthy for the upcoming season, as a 22 year old guy that has been effective every place he has been given a chance....even if only for a short time, I say he's got what it takes. Sorry about the Lucroy comment, but man some of you guys love him much more than any other prospect I've ever seen discussed...which is fine. I have stayed away from the board since I tend to ruffle feathers, but I still think Braddock is the real deal! Please forgive me my transgressions guys!
  17. I know you guys are busy drooling over Jonathan Lucroy, but is nobody here excited about how Braddock has performed in the AFL? He gave up his only run earlier this week, but managed back to back strikeouts to preserve what was a 2-1 final. Isn't this supposed to be the "big stage" we expect these guys to perform on prior to getting the "big call"? I think Braddock is now healthy, still showing what he has since day 1, and ready to make the next step...and he's just 22....for a big lefty, I think somebody here would be a little more excited! Keep up the good work Zach!!
  18. It's great to see Braddock having nice outings! After all, he did just turn 22 a couple months ago, so even though we've been talking about him for a while, he should have a good long major league career ahead of him!
  19. I know most of you guys thought I had gone away since the Brewers left Charleston, but I'm still here and following my guys! Checking the boxes tonite i see five former WV Power players had a full nite in the bigs....Ryan Braun was just well, Ryan Braun, Alcides Escobar, continues to make a name for himself, Michael Brantley goes 2-5 from the leadoff spot, and Matt LaPorta hits his sixth of the year...anyone else remember this guy? That's five, count em five, major league ballplayers that have made their way through Charleston contributing, but ONLY TWO with the Brewers.....where is Linestink and CC? I still think the Brewers are incredible judges of talent, but I thank GOD they didn't trade any more of it away this year! I gotta say...Joe Thatcher has been impressive and very quick to the bigs...look at the stats!
  20. i know most of you guys think Lucroy is just "the man" but despite all the "opportunities" that have presented themselves in recent years...Salome is still with the Brewers, so I just don't think Lucroy jumps him by default, or it probably already would've happened. I agree with the idea that they both fight for a spot in the spring...but I still don't think with Lucroy having 1/2 of a decent year from the batters box in AA, makes him superior to Salome. I just don't think Lucroy is that great of a hitter...but of course, the Crew has proven that is NOT a requirement to be the starting catcher, so maybe Lucroy wins the battle IF his behind the plate skills truly are superior....I guess we will see in the spring!
  21. I second that! We all like first hand accounts, but some don't like to have their expert status/opinion challenged by an actual first hand account! Keep posting though as most of the guys in Huntsville I got to watch here in Charleston at low A ball!
  22. Follow the link to MILB.com auctions and autographed "Star Wars jerseys" of several player including Brett Lawrie! Proceeds benefit Make a Wish Foundation.... http://www.milbauctions.com/images/stores/30/300/star_wars_far10_300.JPG
  23. Braddock with 26 strikes on 33 pitches....that's the kind of control we need to see! Very strong despite the unearned runs! 2 strikeouts, both swinging tonite!
  24. Somebody do me a favor, and look at the defensive stats for Lucroy and Salome, and explain to me why Lucroy is just so defensively superior to Angel? While the sample size is bigger, I just don't see the great difference. Angel doesn't necessarily play everyday in Nashville, but his numbers are not that horrendously different than Lucroy's are they? I'm not one to understand all the defensive stats, but if someone can explain it for me I'd appreciate it. I just don't see the number of passed balls, or the #CS or SB to be that big a deal for Salome.
  25. I think Braddock is supposed to throw tonite, but Hand may not let him at this rate! edit: After seeing that they are in a rain delay, if they start back up we could still see Zach!
