  1. No? They pay for prior performance and hope that they can get a few years of that performance knowing the back-end of the deal is probably not going to be very good for the team.
  2. I'm guessing you would be permanently squished to said wall.
  3. Bill: Maybe they brought him in for the double play. He gets a lot of ground balls. *Awkward silence* Bill: Not a double play situation right now.
  4. BECAUSE THEY WERE SEPARATE DEALS. We didn't give him a 13 year, $140 million contract from the get go.
  5. I'm sure teams do use some sort of WAR and $/win calculation. It's pretty obvious that they don't use the junk $8 million per 1 WAR that fangraphs uses though.
  6. Right, if we went by these WAR values everyone would have a $200+ million payroll.
  7. This I will agree with and it was my main concern. You can get guys like Aguilar and Shaw pretty much whenever you want but there's a huge risk in relying on them because they were never really highly touted with great tools that you could consistently rely on. So you get a good couple years out of them and you expect them to continue and then they just fall off. A scorched earth rebuild, while painful is probably more sustainable long term in a market like this than hoping to find a bunch of guys like Shaw and Aguilar to consistently contribute over a number of years.
  8. This isn't difficult. Hudson vs RHB: .258/.329/.382 Hudson vs LHB: .307/.400/.531
  9. I think he was early in his career. I also remember after he got sent down in 2007 that Sveum told him he needed to be more aggressive early in the count. His walk rate fell about 5-8% while still maintaining a good 10ish% rate but his batting average went from the mid .230s to right around .270.
  10. Where does this idea that Weeks had a poor approach come from? He never had a poor approach and produced OBPs of .363 at age 23 and .374 at age 24. Weeks was notorious for repeatedly waiving at outside sliders. It was a hole in his approach the majority of his career, and ultimately his downfall. His downfall was he was the #2 overall pick and not a superstar so fans thought he was awful. There was nothing wrong with his overall approach at the plate.
  11. Dakota Hudson kind of sucks in general but really sucks against left handed hitters. This is like the perfect matchup for how our roster is built.
  12. Where does this idea that Weeks had a poor approach come from? He never had a poor approach and produced OBPs of .363 at age 23 and .374 at age 24.
  13. They're still going to opt out and look for long term deals.
  14. Seriously there has to be a cough button Coshun can press to spare us from Plesac.
  15. Screw it, I want the Nats to score 50. If we're going to lose, lose like you've never lost before and keep me entertained.
  16. I don't think Plesac knows how long 45-50 yards is if he thinks Thames went 45-50 yards into the outfield on that Gomes hit.
  17. I'm 47 years old and, believe it or not, I've never smoked a cigarette. I can also count on two hands the number of times I have ingested any sort of alcohol in my life. I don't think it's that uncommon to have never smoked. My dad smokes a pack a day and even if I wanted to try it, I could never get past the awful smell of it. As far as alcohol, I've had a sip of my dad's beer when I was like 10, thought I'd try it again to see if it was still gross when I was 21, it was and then had a rum and coke which wasn't that bad but not enough to make me want to go out and get them or make one myself.
  18. Probably bring in whoever they deem the best option at catcher and play with two outfielders.
  19. I get they're out of relievers but how do you not send a starting pitcher up there to bunt? Worry about who's going to pitch when/if you actually cross that road.
