  1. Yeah, gave him plenty of chances to stop and he didn’t. Also funny that Woodruff didn’t know the strikeout of Hoskins was the third out.
  2. Avilan vs LHB: .154/.313/.231 Avilan vs RHB: .429/.477/.686 Claudio vs LHB: .136/.240/.227 Claudio vs RHB: .361/.425/.722 Stats seem pretty similar, no? At the very least not enough of a difference to give up the 41st pick in the draft. I also suggested Tony Sipp who has this weird reverse split going on right now (.750 OPS vs LHB, .500 vs RHP), Oliver Perez .222/.276/.370 vs LHB and .250/.333/.458 vs RHB and Jake Diekman, who is shutting down both righties and lefties and only got $2.75 million guaranteed with $500,000 in incentives. Like I said, there were plenty of options out there that could do what Claudio can that cost only a couple million and don't cost a draft pick.
  3. Was it even Counsel's decision? He did get ejected before Claudio came in to pitch. Managers always make the decision. It's not like they have to leave the stadium. It's a pretty short walk from the dugout to the clubhouse, if Counsell was even there. He could've been in the hallway between the dugout and clubhouse.
  4. Jennings vs LHB last year: .226/.266/.304 There were a lot of people not happy with the move when it happened. Cedeno got them out too. The question is why did Stearns feel the need to take a valuable draft pick and spend it on a guy that should only face left handed hitters when he had two that he got rid of already and when LOOGYs just aren't that valuable to begin with? So because we've missed on some picks we should just toss them aside? Maybe the Packers and Bucks should do that too? And we're not really getting a contributing big leaguer right now. Also, this decade we've gotten Jimmy Nelson with a pick in the 60s, Haniger at pick 38, Woodruff in the 11th round and Burnes at 111 and that's with piss poor drafting for most of the decade. We still managed to get some quality around (and later) than where that pick is going to be. Not to mention dropping us to the second lowest bonus pool in the draft. It was a trade that didn't make any sense at the time and now that Claudio is being used as a pitcher that he clearly cannot be, it's even worse.
  5. Middle of the order coming up in the 9th too. Baffling decision.
  6. Scott Kingery is Mark Kotsay bad in CF, so hit it to him if you can.
  7. Reds: Hold my beer... I'm not even sure that base running was terrible by the Reds. You don't expect a catcher to completely miss catching a ball and since he did, it hit off the wall and bounced right back. When the runner on 3rd realized it, he went back. When the runner on 2nd saw the runner on 3rd going back, he went back and by the time the catcher with anvils attached to his legs realized the runner on 2nd was going back, Grandal already had the ball and he was toast.
  8. Batters don't have to try to get out of the way. As long as they don't lean into the pitch they can do whatever they want and there's no possible way Dietrich could lean into a pitch that was almost behind him.
  9. Cleveland doing the stars and scrubs thing except their stars aren't playing like stars and their scrubs are playing like scrubs.
  10. Claudio posted 3.7 fWAR/4.8 bWAR in the three seasons before we acquired him & likely projects to produce similar value over the three years of control we have. For comparison, here are the fifteen #39 picks from 2000-14... Negative WAR (3): David Huff (2006, -1.8), Anthony Ranaudo (2010, -1.5), Connor Joe (2014, -0.1). No MLB (7): Chad Hawkins (2000), Wyatt Allen (2001), Jay Rainville (2004), Hank Sanchez (2005), James Adkins (2007), Kentrail Davis (2009), Larry Greene (2011). Push (3): Mark Teahan (2002, 2 .6), TGJ (2003, 5.2), Knebel (2013, 4.3) Win (2): Lance Lynn (2008, 15.1), Joey Gallo (2012, 7.0) So you've got 10 guys who provided zilch or worse & 3 guys who provided similar value against only 2 guys who produced more value than Alex likely projects to provide. I'm guessing the front office has performed much more comprehensive versions of this exercise & the results probably came back that three years of Claudio had a much higher likelihood of providing positive value than the 39th pick in any draft. Okay. Now what about all the guys after 39? And a lot of us felt 39 could have been included in a package that brought something better than a LOOGY.
  11. He didn't have a double or a triple though. I'll show myself out.
  12. You lose 100% of the games you don't score. -Chinese proverb
  13. Our top prospects are a lot worse than other teams' top prospects. We're not giving up Wander Franco or even a Cole Tucker here.
  14. Just noticed that Lucroy is quietly having a nice bounce back season.
  15. Corey Ray. Just yikes.
  16. Can probably just say right now that Mickey Callaway is getting fired. He was on the hot seat last week and getting swept by the Marlins including having 3 total hits in the last 2 games is probably going to be the straw that broke the camel's back.
  17. Maddon's a dolt but...Edwards was called on it in Spring Training and has changed how he pitches. So I kind of agree with what Joe did there. If you look at what Edwards was doing and what Doolittle was doing, it's night and day. Doolittle hovers and his toe barely even taps the dirt. It took me a couple of replays to even confirm that he did. What Edwards did was lift his leg, land fully on his leg and then throw.
  18. Google is a thing.
