    Sure would be nice if we had Gabe Gross to play for Hart right now. His .346 OBP would fit nicely. His .346 OBP would be third on the team. That's pretty pathetic.

    Haha, Cliff is pissed about this. I have to say, it's kind of pathetic listening to him. It sounds like he's trying to play devil's advocate but is failing badly in his acting job.

    It's done. I still think Mark A. pulled the trigger on this. Melvin sounded really depressed in the interview. Basically the same thing, Sveum's job got a lot tougher and that, nobody knows how to fix what's going on and that, Yount is only coming back for the rest of the season to help out is friend and that etc. He also gave a Gallardo update which I posted in the Gallardo thread.

    Melvin just said in an interview that he expects Gallardo to get some time in before the year is done.

    Yeah, there's no way we could fine a player of Brantley's caliber in the 1st or 2nd round when Brantley was taken in the 7th round.

    Well Baseball Prospectus puts the Cubs odds of winning the division at 99.21603%. We would have to sweep them and probably win 5 of 6 against the Reds and Pirates while they have to choke against us, the Cardinals and the Mets. I'm not even thinking about the division. We had our chance when the Cubs came to town at the end of July and we blew it. The wildcard is pretty much our only chance.

    What sense does that make? Say we lose tomorrow and the Phillies win and then he's fired. We would then be out of the top spot and then it would make more sense to fire him? Ridiculous. All that does is prolong the meltdown by one day and give you one less game to be able to make up the deficit. The reason he was fired is because, once again, when the pressure was on the clubhouse was feeling he was panicking. Going back to the Rosenthal article from a few days ago when the scout called Ned a "Nervous Nellie." I think the 8th inning of game one yesterday might have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

    Yeah, I believe we need to catch the Mets if we want to make the playoffs. Philadelphia has a cupcake schedule so they should win that division. We need to hope we turn it around and the Mets continue to struggle. So we need to be big time Nationals, Braves, Cubs (ugh) and Marlins fans for the rest of the season.
