  1. I love MVP '05 (Xbox). It's still the video game I play the most. I still have Hart, Weeks, Hall, Fielder and added David Wright, Adam Everett, Rocco Baldelli, Kevin Mench, Miguel Olivo and Austin Kearns.
  2. Well, it's not as if they shut him down and he just stops throwing. He gets bullpen sessions. I would think throwing fewer innings in games could only make him fresher for the stretch. At 144 IP, he's just about at the point where he ended the season last year. I can see your point though about how it may affect his effectiveness, so to speak. As far as making the playoffs without him, I think if Villy can be effective a starter as he was last season, we won't lose too much. Sept rotation: Sheets Villanueva Bush Vargas Suppan LR Capuano LR Gallardo MR Shouse MR Wise SU Turnbow CL Cordero SU Linebrink
  3. Yeah, that was my same thought. I'm guessing we use Villy as a starter during at least early September to try to make it through without wasting Gallardo for late season/postseason starts.
  4. Aug 20th: 144 IP Around 25-30 IP left to play with... One more start for Gallardo with Sheets coming back? Gallardo has about 4-5 starts left in him. If Gallardo starts one more, Sheets replaces Yo and Villy assumes the empty rotation slot left by Cappy (both by Sept 1), Yo will have 2-3 more starts left for the stretch run, whether that be in the last couple weeks of the regular season or in the playoffs. I assume he'll use a few innings out of the bullpen during that stretch.
  5. Cappy allowed 5 ER in 6 1/3 inning, which is not anything close to a good start. Maybe not a good start, but it doesn't mean he wasn't pitching ok, which is what Yost said.
  6. Indeed, didn't Arizona start its white hot stretch just after getting pasted on that Thursday game in Miller Park in July? May the stretch come full circle (i.e. end) for them with this series, preferably tonight. That's been my solace for the last two days. We were the last team to beat the D'backs, let's do it again. I like our chances tonight, let's pick one up on those north siders. HECK YES, BILL HALL, 2-0!
  7. Right move. I really feel for Cappy but there comes a time. At least we have another lefty out of the pen now! But I think we can finally close the chapter on "Sheets v. Cappy - Who is Our Ace?" from 2006.
  8. Good to see at least good contact in the first inning. Go Cap!
  9. I feel like we need the return of the "Curse the Cubs" and "Reds" threads right now. And we should all vow to pee our pants if Capuano gets another win this season. I'd probably make the pledge. Happy Birthday Cap, here's to breaking the streak tonight.
  10. A lot of people were high on his numbers vs. RHP last season (.294 / .400 / .508 / .908 ) in (granted) only 227 PA's v RHP in 2006.

  12. Jenks appears to be hitting his late season hot streak, as scheduled.
  13. Guy gets two hits and we're talking sitting regulars. actually, this thread started before Gabe got an AB yesterday. I still want Hart playing a lot and I don't even want a strict R/L platoon, I just want Gross to start twice (maybe thrice) a week. It's worth it in case Gross gets hot.
  14. Boy this is a fickle bunch! Yesterday when Corey's name was omited from the line up there was an uprising, bench Hall leave Corey alone. Also, try not to attribute an opinion to an entire board of fans, especially since there are so many that visit and post on these forums; there are going to be many people that feel a certain way and many that feel another. I've wanted Gross to get more ABs all season and I'm hoping, since Hart is not as hot right now, that he will get an opportunity. And I don't think anyone is saying bench Corey a lot, just against some RHP since Gross is a lefty and hits righties basically as well as Jenks.
  15. No it doesn't make a bad fan. I don't like the fans that talk about a manager being so bad that he's running the team into the ground, it just sounds like an excuse for the players to me. Ned is an adequate manager, a bit too old-school for my taste but he has done well with a young team.
  16. I'm on this train. I'd like to see Gross maybe 3 games per week for awhile. Spell Hart a bit and get him some rest, he already said about a month ago that he was getting a bit fatigued.
  17. I'm not too worried to tell you the truth. If you believed in the talent of this team in May you should still believe in it now. Our pitching is just in rough shape right now. I'm confident we'll see some better starts in the last few weeks. I think I predicted 86 wins which could be pretty close. I know people get tired of youth as an excuse for struggling, but I think it's a big part of our inconsistency. A lot of our guys are just getting used to the grind of 162 games. Every time I get depressed about how this season is going, I think about what next season is shaping up to be and I get happy again.
  18. Mench + Vargas = Manny Ramirez!! Because that's what winning teams do.
  19. He has to appeal it IMO so that we can have our Sept 1 callups there for depth. I think Corey Hart should start taking some reps at 1B, otherwise Dillon would suffice.
  20. I think Gross needs to take the AB's that Mench has been getting against RHP's lately, and probably start stealing some of Hall's AB's against righties. And he needs to hit in the top two of the lineup when he does play. Agreed. We're missing high OBP players and Gross can help us there.
  21. True, but who replaces Gallardo when he hits 175 IP (well before any potential postseason). I'd like to see Zach Jack back again, though he hasn't been too impressive at AAA. I'm afraid that we'll be stuck with Cappy unless Doug mines someone from the waiver wire.
  22. It makes me laugh when people say Parra's innings are "running out" as if there is a rule banning him from pitching more than 150 innings. It's an arbitrary number folks. Well, it's not arbitrary if the Milwaukee Brewers have set that as their cap for him this season. You're not going to see him go much over 150 IP.
  23. Question: If we decline the option on Jenkins next year and then offer arby, do we get the draft picks? And all this talk of average/below average, where does he fall in terms of type of FA? I don't think we get any picks if we decline the option.
  24. Well, you also have to factor in that we are way better at home than they are, which has pretty much balanced our records out. But you are right that winning more on the road is key for the stretch run.
