  1. If he has a good year I'm thinking he'll get 4-5 years at 16-18 million per year from one of the top AL teams (Detroit). I love how Ben is honest and realistic about his situation but still exudes confidence in his ability. I think we still could get a slight Brewer discount from Ben this next offseason.
  2. That's my problem with the majority of experts picking the Cubs, it starts to appear that they have a big edge over the rest of the Central when in fact they may not even truly be the favorite. One big injury could swing the advantage one way or the other. I know I'm not, but have to ask: am I the only one who thinks the Brewers will be better than the Cubs for 2008?
  3. so much depends upon a bill hall homer glazed with beads of sweat beside the white baseline. (W.C. Williams "The Red Wheelbarrow")
  4. That's fine but how can you ignore last year's splits? By looking at the sample size.
  5. Cameron works the count well, so he should get some meaty fastballs if he remains patient. With Kendall hitting 9th, I like Fielder up the lineup a tad and Braun will get some opportunities to steal with Hart and Hall behind him, though I don't think we need to be stealing that often.
  6. Yeah, here's today's spring training lineup per Haudricourt: Milwaukee Brewers (0-0) 2B Rickie Weeks CF Mike Cameron 1B Prince Fielder LF Ryan Braun RF Corey Hart 3B Bill Hall SS J.J. Hardy DH Gabe Gross C Jason Kendall SP Claudio Vargas (not batting) I like that Cameron gets to hit in front of Prince.
  7. <--------- Crazy Joe Dillon
  8. Probably TLB. Sometimes you won't notice a partial weakness/tear until you just happen to land on it slightly wrong and it becomes an issue. I guess I'm not too concerned as long it's only a few early season starts. The bonus hopefully is his arm will have a bit more "juice" in it toward the end of the season.
  9. ...and now I'll pull my arms out with my face. +1! http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b273/AJAY_02/NedYostScared.jpg "Hi-dy-ho Tim!"
  10. At least this should ensure that Villanueva is in the starting rotation to open the season. And we can wait to trade Vargas; Bush starts in the rotation with Cappy/Suppan/Villy/Sheets, Vargas as the long man out of the pen. Maybe we can get something worthwhile for Vargas if he puts together some decent innings in relief. I still don't think the Brewers will go with Parra over Bush unless Manny just sparkles in ST ala Villy in 2007.
  11. Please don't make Joe Dillon angry. You wouldn't like Joe Dillon when he's angry. Ripping on Dillon right now seems pretty ridiculous. Saying he's unproven is also pointless. How can he prove anything in 76 PAs? Having him on our bench is harmless and should prove beneficial.
  12. I'd say the main reason would be why change leagues again? I don't think a team would ever consider changing leagues because the team's "style" would fit better there. There'd have to be a better reason. More interleague games = more games against opponents you are not vying against for the playoffs (fewer "playoff-type" games) If we moved to the AL Central, we'd be probably the 3rd best team in the division just ahead of the Twins. Who would have thought the padres and brewers series would actually have an impact on who won the NL West and also the wild card? I'm sure there would've been plenty of people who thought that was possible.
  13. Damn Ben Sheets parents for passing on genes susceptible to vestibular neuritis! I think Yost and Benny should form their own support group. They could invite Kevin Mench, Johnny Estrada and Brady Clark.
  14. Melky was in CF most of last year, Damon in LF.
  15. Keep in mind that we would have had to offer Estrada Arby's Also keep in mind how much more weight Estrada would've gained had we given him 3 beef & cheddars a day! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  16. When will Gabe Gross start over/pinch hit for Hart or Braun, other than typical rest days?
  17. Rluz, you can include my estimations if you'd like to increase your sample size slightly, my guesses were estimations of what I thought was actual value.
  18. I'll take Hanley Ramirez: young and great production at a premium position.
  19. I think Bush could be valuable in a bullpen role if he a) starts innings in his appearances, and b) isn't left in the game if he lets 2 guys on [insert Yost crack here]. At least Yost will have some more arms to relieve Bush in that situation in 2008. Bush is a great option to spot start also. If Cappy struggles out of the gate, Bush is a great plan B. Bush has always had good peripherals but I agree about him struggling pitching from the stretch. Bush smacks of a guy who has good electric stuff but hasn't been a pitcher as long as other pitchers his age.
  20. I'll join others in saying that I thought the salesgenie commercials were very inappropriate as well. I even made mention to my friends at the time. You'd think whoever produced the commercial would've at some point stopped and thought about what they were doing.
  21. Good post playmaker. I think a lot of us get caught up in the negativity of the last two seasons and don't look forward to having a legitimate contender for not only the NL Central, but the National League. 11 days until pitchers and catchers report.
  22. In regard to Yost, it is obvious that Melvin does not have a ton of trust in his game to game abilities. Melvin stated that this should be an easy club to manage, and that his moves in the offseason have been done with partially in mind. I think Melvin respects Yost's ability to keep players on an even keel, but that is about it. Is there a link for this interview? This is very interesting, I just want to see what Melvin actually said about Yost.
  23. Here's the old one, hasn't been posted on since Dec, but it's still in the designated threads. http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=382
  24. Worthless as far as trade value goes, but not worthless to the Brewers as a prospect. He's a sunken cost for us so if we can get any major league production from him, great, but no team is going to offer much to take that risk.
