  1. why not just see if David Wright is available, instead of playing games with Braun?
  2. sounds like Drugs or mental health/anxiety issues to me. They probably do know a lot more than they are saying, but due to privacy issues, they can not and should not say anything. These issues are personal. Zach will need more than a demotion to help sort this out, he will definitely need counselling and support if this is the case. I highly doubt it is just "sleep related".
  3. wins are down about 20% so.. sort of goes hand in hand. I doubt they are surprised in Milwaukee. Wins = butts in seats. It's that way for every franchise. the economy probably has something to do with it as people have lost their jobs and dont have the income to go to a game. Im not even sure what job loss numbers look like in the 5 county area - they were bad even before the recession we are in.
  4. Big Z is the perfect curse for a half decade for the Cubs. Leave him be - keep him Chicago where he belongs.
  5. Has anyone seen any updates from the prognosticators and the people in the know for the summer? I saw the Brewers system from anywhere from 13-26 in the offseason. With the upward movement of guys like Escobar, LuCroy, Braddock, and I guess Axford and Loe.. how are we faring?
  6. Dont they already have a guy just like Dave Bush just kind of hanging out in the pen right now anyways? Tim Stauffer?
  7. they shouldn't be moved unless the offer warrants it worth it. Hart is less in value than Fielder... but just trading Fielder just because is not going to do the fan base service... you really need to hump alot of value out of Prince Fielder. He is the best power hitter in baseball. With Howard and Dunn in the argument.
  8. If SF doesn't want to trade pitching, they can just give us Buster Posey and we'll call it a deal http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. The Brewers have some decisions to make.. and one of the options is do they re-approach Scott Boras to get a deal done with Prince. I am not for this option, because I believe it is potentially very risky. However, If the Brewers do decide that it makes best business sense/baseball sense to do based on the offers they get for him. What is the ultimate number? 7 years / 150 Million - a little short of Texeira Money, not much on a per year average. Last season has a 4M buyout. It looks like the brewers have substantial payroll coming off the books and with their failures in the free agency market (especially with soft tossing 32+ y/o) would you be upset with this as an option.
  10. 1. A grown man shouldn't be writing an e-mail telling on another grown man for something that happens in a game. 2. If you feel they are hitting your guys on purpose and you want it to stop. Hit their biggest/baddest player.... or at least buzz the tower and make him dust himself off. There is a reason why we get hit alot (reputation of being young and cocky / unwillingness to back it up). 3. Next year Tommy Hanson pitches against the Brewers. Jeremy Jeffress should make his debut and uncork a 100mph rib job onto Hanson. He will think five times before pulling that stunt against the Brewers again. Ryan Braun was not right for 2 months after that HBP. It has gone a long way to helping screw our season over. 4. Just fire Macha, put Sveum in there. This wont be an issue anymore.
  11. With the White Sox being in it to win it this season.. and with Peavy down for the year. A perfect stop gap is Dave Bush. A Fielder/Bush for Hudson/Beckham/Holmberg/Viciedo swap works. I'd move Lawrie to 1b. His bat translates. Keep McGehee at 3rd (he already plays his position well - Gamel's future is not in Milwaukee. He can't field 3b legitimately and hasnt shown the power to think a RF transition is appropriate) I'd be extending Weeks as soon as I made this deal.. and Beckham is now a super utility guy.
  12. I agree on "no" moving Rickie to the OF. He is not good at 2b.. but he isn't killing us either. He's much better from 2 years+ ago. He'll keep getting better. Keep him there. Plus if you ever want to trade him.. his bat is killer for a 2b. He would be much less valuable in RF.
  13. I dont think they should trade Hart, just to trade him. But if someone comes in with an offer that the Brewers like... im sure they will go for it. But if GMs around the league try to low-ball them.. i dont think they have any problem keeping these guys for next season. It's just a matter of getting what you can.. im sure they are on the phones listening to teams that want to compete. Unlike going after players at the deadline, you are now in the position where teams come to you and want to pluck from your squad. After a team shows real interest.. then the bargaining back and forth begins. But if they call up and say.. hey, we want Corey Hart and don't want to trade anything worth swapping him for (IE: Giants) then, just thank them for their time and wait till the winter. Worst case scenario you will get back draft picks - but again, this shouldnt happen either if they play their cards right.
  14. what metric? I'm terribly concerned about the sub .900 Fielding percentage. Really doesnt matter what his range is or whatever else they are looking at. If he has stone hands.. he's not going to help us at 3rd. He needs to see the wizard stat and get new hands.
  15. I think they can win without Hart and Fielder. You have to figure that Escobar and Gomez can't hit much worse than they are currently. Rickie Weeks is hitting .353 with RISP and has an godly .353 BA/.515 OBP with RISP w/2outs. 15 HR and 53 RBI are sick for a leadoff guy at this point in the season. IMO he has been the 1st half MVP - Axford and Hart are close. Without Hart and Fielder we will likely pick up surplus pitching. While 2010 is probably a lame duck season at this point, you can still aim big for 2011 without these guys. I am not a fan of sliding McGehee over to 1b and inserting Gamel at 3rd - McGehee is too solid at 3rd - he needs to stay put. Gamel plays 3rd worse than Braun threw from 3rd to 1st. He has brick hands and should be moved to RF if he ever starts hitting again... then he would earn a spot in Milwaukee. I would advise the crew going out and signing a one year guy at 1b next season when Fielder is dealt. Switch Lawrie to 1b - @ AAA and bring him up mid-june 2011. Lawrie's bat does translate to 1b. If not Lawrie, move Braun from LF to 1b - he wont have to throw the ball much and would be alot better there than at 3rd.. theorhetically. The pitching we receive back from the Hart/Fielder deals would likely result in a starter for 2011 or two. The rotation of Gallardo Wolf Parra Prospect Prospect isnt a bad idea IMO. It will be much cheaper than years past. We also have guys in the minors that could make the staff if we are hurting. Notably Mark Rogers - shedding that bust moniker and Amaury Rivas. Going forward, 2011 will be a less cumbersome salary burden for the Brewers and they should be able to make some moves to bring in Veteran position players if they need to fill a spot or two. They can't be any worse than this season.
  16. Fielder is not going to Texas.. because we won't take back contracts to even the money to make the move plausible. Heck, they probably would want us to take more money than Fielder's contract to even out the dollars from the Lee trade. Doesn't make sense, wont work for either club. Now, with top of the division teams making moves, that does rachet the pressure on teams in 2nd place to make moves to potentially trump them. Prince Fielder is a trump card. We are in a nice spot... if no one gives what we want... then you probably have to wait till winter. Caving in right now for a lesser deal is not the right move. But if a deal is close to ideal... you do have to take it. Just no silly deals for AAAA talent.
  17. I was wondering if anyone goes and sees him pitch regularly. What seems to be his problem, is this a mechanical issue? Is it a mental bug - like Manny Parra? Physical - is his velocity down? Control of secondary pitches? It just seems odd that they missed so bad on him. Looking at his year stats, i keep thinking he can't be that bad... they should be able to fix this. Let us know if anyone is a regular at the games or is in the know?
  18. the money will basically match up in the end. Villenueva and Hoffman can be excised from the roster at years end and Hart will probably cost around 8 million+ or so... Kenshin's contract next season is 7.33 M i believe. 3/23 is what he signed for. He was paid 8.33 year one, 7.33 this season.. so, 7.33 next year if my math is right.
  19. I dont see how an all-star OF, the last 2 of 3 years - who is still relatively cheap next season - plus two decentish relievers - for a contract filler pitcher that is struggling and a 2nd tier prospect is overpaying... Sometimes we really, really discount MLB talent. It's not like Hart is old and he is not being "beat" like he was last season as Law asserts. He is a changed man at the plate right now... guys get better as their careers progress in their mid to late 20's ... who knew.
  20. Let's see him pitch at AA before we start calling for this guy in the majors. I really like him out of the pen right now, but as a starter he is going to need another full year in the minors. I'm really excited to see what they do with him. The Wainright comparison someone made earlier is right on. It's too bad the Brewers aren't in playoff position to utilize him in that way. Because we will most likely be retooling the roster, it's most likely they give him another shot in the rotation - but that means we will likely see him at AA most of next season.
  21. It's going to cost at least a Madison Bumgarner to get Prince Fielder. Regardless of his contract situation, you still have 1.5 years of one of the 3 best HR hitters in the major leagues. Any deal should bring back similar talent to a CC Sabathia trade - if it were less they aren't playing their cards right. This isnt a straight up rental, he still has a year.
  22. he'll be in Huntsville sometime this season. He'll probably be in Milwaukee starting the year next season - at very latest June. He is gassing people right now. It will be nice to see what he can do against AA hitters. A+ for now. I hope they keep him as a reliever. I dont see Axford or Braddock as a closer of the future. I think they will be a good seventh/eighth inning tandem. Jeffress just has more swing and miss potential, and flat out better stuff.
  23. halfway surprised it wasnt 5 out of 5. They said they were going heavy on the arms this draft. I believed them.
  24. I like the idea of bringing in another low to mid 90s LHP. Sounds like a good pick and he hasnt been overused.
