Zambrano leaves game with shoulder tightness. Update (post #81): Placed on 15-day DL, retroactive to 6/19

Unfortunate for the Cubs, but I'd be shocked if he missed more than one start. Like someone else said, he has something cramp up every month, so I don't think they have much to worry about. I did get a kick out of Tim Kurkjian throwing in Ben Sheets' name casually as a trade possibility, but Zambrano injury or not I'd be surprised if A.J. Burnett's not a Cub by August.

Maybe he forgot to eat more bananas. Speaking of Burnett, I wonder if he'll reconsider opting out of that $13 million he'd get next year with the Jays...

March 27, 2002: D-Train traded by the Chicago Cubs with Jose Cueto (minors), Ryan Jorgensen, and Julian Tavarez to the Florida Marlins for Antonio Alfonseca and Matt Clement.

Who's that Tavarez guy?

He will miss one start and his future will be determined tomorrow.

He has a minor strain in his shoulder per Comcast Sports.

Buster Olney just said that he is expected to miss another start after this first missed start and could go on the DL. Diagnosed with a mild shoulder strain.

15 days plus some rehab. He'll likely miss at least 4 starts.

Where did you hear that he'll miss 4 starts? I saw that they put him on the DL, but the MRI said there was no structural damage, so it didn't seem like it'd be that serious.

Then again, Ben Sheets had "no structural damage" last year, too. I guess we'll see, but I'd be surprised if Zambrano misses that many starts. Knowing the Cubs, though, they'll probably score 12 runs in each of the starts he misses so Sean Marshall or whoever they call up to make his starts doesn't have to pitch under much pressure.

I'm guessing it's just a reasonable assumption- he'll miss 3 starts because he's on the 15 day DL by definition, plus you'd think it's fairly likely he'll make a rehab outing in the minors at some point. I think 3-4 starts is a fair guess.

I said he would likely miss 4 starts. Maybe it's 3. Maybe it's 10.

True, I was just curious because I was hearing 2-3 and that Piniella was planning on getting him 2 starts before the All-Star break. No big deal. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
