Matt Morris to Pirates

Just reported by Ken Rosenthal and Kevin Kennedy on XM. Waiting for details of who Pittsburgh sent to SF. Believed to be Morris and cash going to Pittsburgh.

What? Hahaha. I have no idea what Pittsburgh is doing. The move makes almost no sense from their perspective, imo. They should be trading guys away for prospects, not acquiring old guys.

The Pirates often do this, a couple years ago, they added Burnitz and Hernandez, when they should have been rebuilding. I don't get it at all, they have some nice young talent on that team, especially pitchers...the only thing I can say is they want an "innings eater" but doubt they can sign one in the FA market, but that's only if Morris is signed for another year or two.

It's not a bad strategy.... Get SF to eat salary, eat some innings, and then flip at next year's deadline for prospects.

 

Rajai Davis and a PTBNL will probably be not as talented as the return they might get next year for a cheaper, rental version of Morris.

Well, Rajai Davis is a non-entity, so I guess it's maybe not that stupid of a deal.

Yeah, Davis is terrible, so this deal won't be all bad for Pittsburgh. Morris isn't very good anymore, but as Brian said he could quite valuable come next year's deadline. They could definitely get a better player for him than Rajai Davis was.
