Jack is REALLY back (24 to resume in 2014)!

I'm wondering if they're setting us up, like a couple years ago when it looked like the VP was evil and it ended up being President Logan.)

Yeah, that's what I'm figuring as well.

I don't usually go looking for gaps or inconsistencies, but unless I missed something this one was so glaring I couldn't stop thinking about it. When did Jack/Tony call Bill/Chloe to let them know where to find Walker? Did one of them send a text from their pocket like Matt Damon's character in The Departed? Emerson was watching them the whole time, I just can't figure out when they would have had an opportunity to send any kind of message.

they were wired so Bill and Chloe heard the whole thing. Tony "described" the area in "some" detail so Bill could find her.

It seems like every season they have one little side story that just gets really annoying when you wanna see the rest of it. There was Sherry Palmer in season 3. Anne Driscoll's daughter in season 4. Martha Logan last season. This season it seems to be the "first gentlemen". As bad as this sounds, I was hoping the secret service guy would have killed him.

I believe that at some point this season, it's going to turn into another "Curtis" incident. What I mean by this is Tony will be all down with the plan until something happens when he can exact revenge on his own terms and away from the plan and Jack will end up having to shoot and kill him ala Curtis before the nuke went off in season six. And then, if he's smart, he'll go over and shoot him 3 or 4 more times to make sure he's dead, like he did with Nina in season four (or three?)

Okay, so the first part of my prediction is possible but the last sentence is hardly likely.

Having to watch last night's show on TiVo, I can confirm that Annie Wersching (Agent Walker) is about 10x more attractive in high definition. (She still looks good in SD, mind you, just not as good.) Of course, now that Chuck's back on, she'll have to settle for playing the 2nd - hottest 'Agent Walker' on Monday Night TV. But I digress.

My main gripe with the season thusfar is that no one has pointed out to the appeasers that, if the U.S. withdraws its forces from Made-up-ala, there would be nothing preventing the terrorists with the CIP device to make additional demands. (Granted, the government's top nerds were looking for a way to patch the firewall, but until that gets done, the threat would still be there.)

That's not a plothole, so it's not really affecting my enjoyment of the show (which dragged a bit this week on the road to the next upheaval, IMO). It's more of an irritation....which means my main gripe is pretty minor compared to the past few seasons.

Spoiler-y question: Anyone know how many episodes the 'big bad' character from the transition / TV movie is signed up for? I'm surprised we haven't seen [that character] yet.

It also seems pretty obvious that the President's aide (Ethan, I think?) is the "person close to the president" that's working for them (it's so obvious to me that I'm wondering if they're setting us up, like a couple years ago when it looked like the VP was evil and it ended up being President Logan.)
According to my son, "Ethan"" (Chief of Staff?) was talking on the phone to the Jon Voight character in Redemption. I vaguely recall that as well, but not 100% sure. So if that's the case he's definitely one of the "bad guys." But it wouldn't be 24 without someone else being involved we don't suspect. I really think the President would be a huge reach. More likely is the main FBI guy or agent Walker. I'm also trying to think of a character from previous seasons that could enter the scene.

Any way you slice it, this whole CIP device plot line is reaching it's natural conclusion and a new twist needs to come soon. BTW, my whole family loves Chloe and the taser scene was one of the best ever.

This season has been excellent thus far. So after Jack saves the day, do you think he'll get a presidential pardon? I also have a feeling that Tony will be killed off for real sometime soon, probably by Jack.

I'm just curious, but how many presidents has Jack served under? This is my third season, and it's now the 5th president in those 3 days. I know of the first Palmer, too. So Jack has served under at least 6 presidents. Doing some simple math, even if Palmer was at the end of his term(s), then followed by Logan and his VP for 4 years, followed by Palmer/creepy VP for 4 more, and now at the start of Taylor's term, that's a minimum of 10 years over which all these things happen.

Anyone else concerned that the only person to 'confirm' the destruction of the CIP device (something they chose to re-show during the open) has conveniently pushed himself out of the picture? (I'd say Triple-Agent, but I still don't know how/where Buchannan got the cash to bankroll his off-book operations....something the President didn't seem that inquisitive about.)

Considering how single-minded the First Gentleman was up to his capture, I'm surprised he didn't use the phone call to convey that Dubaku was responsible for his son's death.

A lot of action this week. From what I've heard, this was the last episode 'in the can' before the writers' strike. I'll be curious to see whether they keep on their current track, or whether there's a big shift in focus coming up.

Well, they are clearly setting up for the standard 24 "we're going to put civilians in a secret undercover situation" with Dubaku scenario that seems to play out every season. That woman and her sister will surely sit down to dinner with Dubaku and lure him in for capture... that, I'm guessing, is when the focus will switch to the "bigger picture" and another large threat.

Good season so far... The first husband didn't turn into Kim and the mountain lion after all...

And Cherry Jones = the best president since Palmer I. Although I did like Powers Boothe's creepy, is-he-good-or-evil president.

Seasons 1,2,3 David Palmer (elected in 1st season) - 1 term

Season 4 President ????? (plane shot down), President Logan - 1 term

Season 5 President Logan same term

Season 6 President Wayne Palmer, President Daniels - 1 term

Season 7 (current) President Taylor - 1 month

I didn't watch seasons 1 or 2 so I don't know if there was a President in the story line before David Palmer but obviously that would have been another President that Jack worked for. So that's 7 presidents - 3 full terms and parts of 2 others (unless David Palmer served 2 terms) 12+ years

Palmer was on the verge of being elected at the end of season 1, and was president for season 2 and 3. At the end of the 3rd season, he announced that he wasn't running for re-election vs. the guy that Logan took over for. So, 8 presidents (if you include whoever was in charge in season one while Palmer was a Senator) over 12+ years.

Let's do this again

Season 1 President Pre-Palmer (1)

Seasons 2,3 President David Palmer (2)

Season 4 President ????? (3) (plane shot down), President Logan (4)

Season 5 President Logan (still 4)

Season 6 President Wayne Palmer (5), President Daniels (6)

Season 7 (current) President Taylor (7)

President John Keeler is the one who was shot-down in AF1. (I IMDB'd him, knowing he also played the Father on 'Unhappily Ever After' ...as that made it extremely difficult for me to take him seriously as President.)

wikipedia says there have been 9 presidents serving a total of 4+ terms (Taylor is the 5th 4-year term on the show).

As a devoted fan of the show since the 2nd ever episode, I'm fairly confident that Wikipedia is wrong. Stunning, I know.

Peavey, they claim that in season 1 there is a pres, then Palmer, then Palmer cedes power to a VP temporarily, then the guy in Air Force One, Logan, Logan's VP takes over, Palmer II, Palmer II's VP (Noah something), and Taylor. That's 9. I didn't see any seasons up until Logan, but each president listed on wikipedia has been mentioned in this thread EXCEPT for the VP that takes over for Logan (well, I mentioned it earlier, but others didn't).

Technicality:

6:46 AM Logan was driven away to be arrested

6:48 AM Jack was abducted and shipped off to China

6:53 Karen tells Buchanan that she thinks Logan will resign and try to cut a deal for clemency. Since the Vice President will soon be sworn in as President, ... (Meaning Logan was President when Jack is abducted)

When Jack returned 18 months later, Wayne Palmer was President.

ERGO: Jack never served under the VP that replaced Logan! (Though in the most technical terms the VP would assume authority before being sworn in which would mean that Jack served under him for 2 minutes - but that is even more of a stretch than what I am stating)

Also: Since I have not seen season 1 or 2, I did not know about David Palmer's temporary step down.
