Maroth To Be Traded Soon?

Posted

I was listening to XM the other day and they had the Tiger's MLB corrspondent on. He was stating that Mike Maroth would be dealt as early as this week for a solid relief pitcher like Gagne. Please help me out here. This sounds like a typical blog rumor.....

You know - hey - we'll trade you some guy who we don't need anymore for one of your good guys - OK? His reasoning was Texas really needs starters and because they don't win much they shouldn't need a closer so it must be a good deal.

Is Maroth better than I'm giving him credit for? Or is he just at best a # 4 or #5 starter? Is this writer out to lunch, or does some of this make sense?

Mike Maroth is a solid pitcher in the AL. If I had to slot him, I'd say a #4. You'd think Vargas would have similar trade value though.

I agree. Same as Vargas or Bush. Plus this guy is 30 years old, 5th yr in the bigs. I just don't see this guy bringing back a solid closer or 8th inning type guy.

huh, Maroth is a solid #4? I don't see it, he's maybe an upgraded version of Wayne Franklin, but that's all I see there.

No way does he bring anything good in return. He'd bring in a Graffanino or Juan Encarnacion type at best.

If Maroth is to be a free agent at the end of the year, why would Texas trade for him?Only place Maroth might end up is New York as the Yankees search for more starters.

Like Brian said, Maroth isn't a horrible pitcher, but he's a free agent after '08. I know it seems like the Brewers hadn't gotten a hit in like a year, but its still 2007. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I agree with Sbrylski and Boy Jenius, Maroths value should be similar to Vargas and Bush. If nothing else, we will be able to see what the market is for them. If Maroth is enough to get Gagne, then we should jump in on that deal.

I just saw Maroth had 21 starts in 2002 so assumed he had a full season. Bush has lots more value than Maroth though and Vargas has slightly more due to have two arby years left.

So the gamble at which I laughed this offseason -- GM Jon Daniels inking Gagne -- turns out to look like it's really going to pay off for Arlington. Savvy move, but I guess it all comes down to his health. If he's healthy, Daniels is a 'genius,' if not, he's an 'idiot.'
