Top five prospects you want to succeed in 09

Certainly, but it's all a trade-off (as I'm pretty sure you already know). Not one of those three prospects are really complete talents (though I should note that so few prospects are 'complete' in the way I mean... offense & defense). Since Esco has the defensive side completely locked down, the fact that he projects to possibly be an above-avg. offensive SS makes him a much more valuable prospect than either Gamel or Salome imho.

 

If Gamel has to play at LF and/or 1B instead of 3B, obviously that cuts into his value quite a bit. With Salome, the concern as best I can tell isn't just that he may not stick at C -- which could certainly come to pass. The big concern then is where the heck else would he play if not at C? His offense wouldn't be all that great in LF (or even RF), and beyond that where could he really handle fielding? Too short for 1B, & he obviously can't handle MIF or CF.

 

I guess I should also say that I'm not skeptical that his bat will eventually play fine at C, but I do recognize that those that are skeptical certainly have valid concerns.

Escobar, Gamel and Salome are the obvious choices, but boxscores won't help me gauge what I'm looking for out of them. At this point the majority of my attention goes towards pitching development. Also, I'm keeping an eye on Mike Jones after his nice start on Saturday.

I'd also like to follow Eric Fryer. His stats last year were awesome, and he's the first prospect that I've worried about us letting get away. I'd hate to have him develop into a better catcher than Zarraga, Lucroy, or Salome. He's already off to a great start w/the Yanks

I'm still rooting for Scarpetta, and I've been following Caleb Gindl quite a bit. I am hoping Odorizzi has a successful season yet. I've also been really interested in following the progress of Wooten and Mercedes as they seem to be dominating A+.

Lawrie has definitely been a blast to follow. Braddock has done what he does best, strike people out. Aguilar is going the way of Pena (small sample size). Brewer continues to tantalize. And Odorizzi has done nothing so far...nothing so far to disappoint, either. He may have even leap-frogged Jeffress by doing so...or NOT doing so.

rogers-seems to have a high ceiling and a huge future if he can keep off of the DL

 

brewer-tons of potential, future star/trade bait if he can learn to hit.

Cain-seems to be the cf of the future, nice to seem him succeed
