Turnbow proposal for Petit

Posted

Here is a option to acquire a young arm for Turnbow. I think that we would have a younger and less expensive option in Turnbow then the Giants would be offering in Benitez. From what I have heard about Petit he has a high upside and is only 22 yrs. old. I cant say I know everything about Petit so any insight would be appreciated Here is the article from RealGM.com

? Giants closer Armando Benitez, 34, has been the Marlins' No. 1 bullpen target, and a trade remains possible. The Giants appear willing to cover all but $1 million to $2 million of his $7.6 million salary.

But the Giants want a Marlins starter or top reliever ( Taylor Tankersley), and the Marlins won't do that. The Marlins might be willing to give up Yusmeiro Petit or Sergio Mitre. Benitez, who saved a Marlins-record 47 games in 2004, comes off knee surgery but will be ready for spring training, his agent said

I think Petit would be a AAA guy to start the year and would be a top 5 prospect in the organization. I dont personally know how I feel about moving Turnbow at this point though. I do like Petit though, quite a bit actully and have proposed getting him in trades before on this board.

I too like Petit, but I was never a fan of trading Turnbow. Petit would be a very good return for him, as I think there was speculation that New York would center a package around him for Overbay.

For a fatty, he doesn't throw hard. I was always a bigger fan of Fatty Eveland and we saw how our GM viewed that gent. I'm just of the opinion that the Marlins should giver us more. I'd hold out for one of their high ceiling studs at A-ball, as we have no realistic need for another starter lingering in AAA.

There are few pitchers like him in baseball. And he ran the gamut of symbols last year, from fan favorite to scapegoat...almost. But through it all, he continued to try and battle and I think it would be wrong to take him out, right Ned?
