I do not fully believe that one yet, as that is an incredible waste of resources by the Reds....that would literally be one of the most confounding trades of this decade

Maybe Walt is still on the Cards payroll, and is just in Cincinnati to acquire aging, overpaid players to set them back a while.

A friend of mine speculated on this trade yesterday saying Jockety covets Rolen and Rolen wanted to get back to the Midwest. I know Encarnacion always seemed to have a negative vibe given to him by the Reds media and fans. I guess they wanted the sunny disposition of Rolen.

Encarnacion seemed to be an all around average player until he played the Brewers. He just killed us for some reason. I'm glad to see him go the AL.

Doesn't Rolen have a bloated contract too? Can't say this trade makes sense to me from the Reds prospective

Rolen's contract isn't bloated but it is on the high side for a guy with his injury concerns. You can only expect 120 games a year from him and he could easily miss half a season.

The Blue Jays included cash in the deal to cover some of Rolen's salary.

 

In the end, I think the Reds got a really good deal.

 

Rolen can really be a positive influence on that clubhouse (Votto, Phillips, Bruce) and hopefully install a more professional attitude for the Reds.
