With the Mike Lowell trade apparently being off due to him needing surgery, is there any chance Melvin could work out a deal with the Rangers? Would they possibly be willing to give up an "OK" starting pitcher for Hart, straight up?

 

We all know Melvin likes trading with the Rangers.

Another possible fit is Atlanta, which needs OF depth and has an excess of pitching. Hart to Atlanta for Derek Lowe (with Atlanta picking up a chunk of his salary). Or, Gamel and Hart for Vazquez. (Atlanta could move Chipper to first.)

It sounds like the Atlanta tires have already been kicked and there's not much of a fit there. I could be wrong though.

McCarthy is probably want Tex will offer. Hopefully we could package a prospect with Hart & add two arms Nippert & McCarthy

If we trade Hart who is going to play RF? Why trade for an "Ok" pitcher who most likely won't be anything more than a #5 or a reliever?

I'd do a Hart for McCarthy trade and concurrently ship Suppan to the D-backs for Byrnes.

 

A Gerut/Byrnes platoon in RF could easily be better overall than Hart.

You could even do a Nady/Gerut platoon in RF.

I wouldn't trade Hart straight-up for McCarthy(injury history), but it would clear some payroll.
