Dumb question about LCD monitors

I'm considering getting a new monitor for my computer, and noticed that this monitor has a HDMI input. Does this mean that I could connect my cable box to it via an HDMI cable and watch TV on it? Or would the monitor have to have a tuner in it? It says you can watch movies, so would that mean you could connect a DVD player via HDMI cable?

Thanks!

The cable box will act as a tuner so your TV wont need one. Assuming your cable box and DVD player have HDMI output's then yes you can connect your TV to it via the HDMI cable.

Yeah unless it has built in speakers you won't get sound. Now if you can set up your cable box to send sound through a different output from your HDMI and you have speakers you could use it will work. But not all will allow that. If you have a VGA out that can be adapted to DVI and that could work as a video out from your cable box (assuming the monitor has enough DVI inputs)

I have my HDMI out from the cable hooked to the TV (monitor in your case) and the sound out through seperate audio cables to my dvd player/sorround sound and it works just fine. My cable box is from time warner, but I've used the same set up when I had Charter as well. You should be able to make your whole system work, it just involves some extra cables and wiring mess is all.
Everything I've ever known, I've learned from Brewerfan.net....Seriously though
