For those watching, is the home plate ump's strike zone terrible? Gameday is showing a lot of pitches clearly in the zone being called balls.

I think its pretty tight, but its been called the same way all game. No problems with the zone tonight IMO.

Oh good, If we survive Kameron Loe, we are treated to a tightrope act by Axford. I'm... not really feeling it here.
I'm ok with our guys. I'm just not looking forward to the walk-off wonders Kemp and Ethier coming up.

Why oh why is Loe pitching??

Hawkins was ready to go.

That's why. Wow. Nice inning by Loe.

How many times does Gomez have to fail in a key situation before Roenicke takes him out of the 2 spot?
HE SAW SOMETHING IN SPRING TRAINING!

Just ask him. It was for almost a whole month. (I'm not making this up).

Roenicke has been in baseball for over two decades. Has been managing for over ten years. How is it possible for a guy to be this dense regarding batting Gomez 2nd? It truly is mind boggling. Yet, come tomorrow, Gomez will be back in the two hole. Pure insanity.

Plus, where is Melvin on this? Can't he tell Running Ron to stop the madness and remove Carlos from batting in a spot he's so mismatched for?

If Uribe doesn't make the play earlier, does that make Gomez's night any better?

Not saying that it changes anything about where he should be in the order, but as others have noted, it probably reflects more on RR than it does on Gomez.

From one standpoint, I don't know that Gomez in the 2 hole (for now) is any worse than Gomez anywhere else in the lineup. He's gonna be a problem no matter where he is, and it would be hard to put him anywhere but 7 or 8. You sure don't wan't him at 8, so that means he really probably has to be at 7. He's probably better at 7 than 2, but I don't know what the marginal difference is (for now).

Not to mention Tony Gwynn.......

Maybe it's just my opinion, but I see Melvin as a very passive, hands-off GM when it comes to instructing a manager what to do with the players on the field.

Yet, you're right, we will most likely see Gomez in the #2 spot tomorrow night and we'll be posting the same type of comments as we did tonight about Gomez and RR.

I can't help but think of the old adage: fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. All the shame is on RR right now.

It's nice to have an all-world hitter in Braun. For another 9 years. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I don't agree with intentionally walking Prince in a 2-1 game with 0 out here. Just throwing it out there for future reference.

Just so people can't claim the complaints are results-based, I hate using Loe there. Hawkins was warmed up and ready to go. Why does Roenicke think Loe is some shutdown reliever? It's mind-boggling.

Maybe I'm just plain stupid, but I don't mind Gomez there. Especially with Hart not ready to be there (legs) yet, who do we put there? A plus with Gomez, when he does get on, he's virtually a double when Ron runs him and thus is in scoring position for Braun and Fielder....

Agreed. It worked and I am happy it did, but those last two outs were pretty dicey. Had they not had the whole infield between 1st and 2nd that third out would have been a single through the hole.
