Well, it's the first day of tornado watches and warnings, so better get this thread up and running. There was some insane video of a massive tornado that tracked from at least Rochelle, IL through Belvidere. The storm continued up through Lake Geneva, but I didn't see anything that said it was still on the ground by the time it got to Wisconsin.

Tornado watches in the south, winter weather advisories in the north. Make up your mind Wisconsin.

The Rochelle tornado looked violent. The worst damage appears to be in Fairdale which is a little township to the NW. A quick assessment of the damage photos suggests at least EF-3, likely EF-4. Scary.

OWBC you were right the pictures were sad and scary and to think it was less then 20ish miles from me. Looked like a tornado you would see in tornado alley not in northern ill.

Ironically, I was at a NWS spotter training session on the UW-Madison campus while the Fairdale and Rochelle tornadoes were doing their respective things. Happily, it didn't get near enough so the presenter had reason to say, "let's step out of the auditorium to get a better look at this tornadic storm."
