Cordero 2008 Compensation

Assuming Cordero walks as a free agent, what type of compensation would the Brewers get? The other team's first round pick? Sandwich pick? Thanks.

It will either be a sandwich pick and the team's 1st rounder or 2nd rounder, depending on whether the team finishes in the top half of teams in baseball or the lower half.

 

Considering that few teams in the lower half will be looking for an 8-10 million per closer, I'd say 1st and sandwich is fairly likely.

B) Whoever pays 8-10 million for a closer is probably spending alot of money this offseason. (Mets- Wagner, Ryan- Blue Jays) Id assume that we get the team's 2/3 round pick if they sign multiple free agents if we have a better record than the other team?

Adding on to this what would be the compensation for letting Scott Linebrink walk. Is it gaurenteed that it would be the same to Cordero?

If Linebrink qualifies as a Type A free agent, which is likely, but not certain, the compensation would be the same as Cordero.

I believe it's based on the free agent, not the record of the team. So if Cordero is rated higher than the other free agents, we'll get the 1st rounder.

Cordero should be ranked pretty highly, correct? Thus, there's probably a good chance that he's the best player a team signs and we get a higher pick - unless it's a true "spending spree" winter for someone. Linebrink, OTOH, is probably less likely to get us a 1st rounder since he may go to the Yankees or other huge spender who will sign two better players. Just my gut feeling.
