Padres look like a bad little league playing defense this inning. Standing and watching a run down is not a great idea if you are like the next closest defender.

Of course Sogard is going to hit 2nd. He's a scrub but he reminds Counsell of himself. Knew when he got called up he was going to play way too much.

This is really horrible. The guy is a 30 year old light hitting infielder just called up from the minors. He's got a .613 OPS. He sucks as a hitter. And the guy is hitting second.

The real problem is having only one righty on the bench and it being Orlando Arica. Even with that why not let him bat there? Why have lefty on lefty?

Makes sense if Arcia is the last available bat. Probably the case considering Pina already pinch hit.

Franklin looked like a little league right fielder on that. He kept running the wrong way until the ball was over his head, only then did he realize what happened

Maybe he just looked like a career infielder playing outfielder for only about the 30th time in his major and minor league career.

 

I love defensive versatility - but if the guy sucks at a position - that's not a positive.

Tough play so not getting the catch is one thing, but can't end up with both defenders on the ground and the ball rolling away. Nice start to the inning for the Crew though, we'll take it

Wow, what a play and throw. Perfect angle to cut it off and a laser to 2nd throwing off balance. Tip the cap to him on that play.

This is why I really don't want the Sogard and Nieuwenhuis types on the team. Counsell for whatever reason feels this need to work the 24th and 25th guys on the roster into the regular rotation like it's Little League ball.

 

Tonight, I get Sogard starting with the injuries, but there's no universe where he should ever be batting 2nd. That's just dumb. He's a journeyman AAAA player. Hide him near the bottom where he belongs.
