With the 5th pick Milwaukee selects......

This is who I hope we take come June's draft. Who do you think we should go after or what position should be our first rounder?

His name is Jake Opitz. He is a freshman and isn't eligible for the draft yet. He is hitting .244 with a .311slg and .337obp. Personally, I would rather have Alex Gordon (he wears #4) but he won't fall to us. Right now, he will either be the #1 pick or the #2 pick in the draft.

I just looked the number up on the Cornhuskers' website. I assume pohlmanfield meant to post Alex Gordon's picture. I can't imagine that he meant Opitz.

I'm pretty sure that Alex Gordon used to wear #3 prior to this year, and I believe that is indeed Gordon that pohlmanfield posted a picture of.

But sadly, he won't be available for our pick.

Yes I did mean it to be Gordon and the caption below that picture said Gordon so maybe he switched to #4 for this year or something. Here's his school picture. Couldn't find a bigger better baseball pic of him. Currently he's batting .409 with 13 HR and 39 rbi.

I know who we WONT be taking...

One GM predicts that after Justin Upton, the next five picks will be Nebraska third baseman Alex Gordon to Kansas City, Tennessee right-hander Luke Hochevar to Seattle, Long Beach State shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to Washington, Virginia third baseman Ryan Zimmerman to Milwaukee and Fullerton State left-hander Ricky Romero to Toronto.

That is from Peter Gammons latest column, which means it could not be further from the truth.

Incidentally, nobody calls it "Fullerton State."

What are you talking about, Fan of the Brewers from California's Southern?

I think the Brewers will take Cameron Maybin if he's available... I just can't see Jack Z passing him up. Zimmerman seems like a very good possibility, too, though... he would be my preference between those two.

And Gammons is quoting an unnamed GM, so hopefully he didn't just make this up.

If the Royals are smart they won't worry about who is already in their system when it comes to selecting someone of Gordon's caliber. Plus, I think Butler ends up at 1B some day and Maier could be an OF.

I like Teahen, but I think he's likely only to be a Randa type. And, after all, you can always trade players. You can never go wrong with drafting the "best player available" regardless of position.

Not sure Kansas City would take Gordon considering they have Mark Teahen, Billy Butler, and Mitch Maier.

Well, we drafted Prince when we already had Richie Sexson, Brad Nelson, and Corey Hart all playing first.

You can always move someone to the OF or to first. Or it is also possible that a few will fail and not make it. Freak injuries, not so freak injuries, mental blocks, anything could possibly happen.
