Does anybody know how much is lost?

You see many plays that SS or 3B make where they dive and make the throw from there knees. How much more had to be on that throw to make it get to 1st than if he was standing up.

A significant amount of a thrown ball's velocity is developed from the lower body so, I'd say a lot. No idea about specific numbers, however.

In the same line of thinking, I've always found it odd when middle infielders field a ball running away from 1st base (SS deep in the hole , 2b behind second base) and they do that whole jump throw. I'd think that a hard plant and fire would be more efficient.

I assume that it's not though. Unless players really are that concerned about getting on Sportscenter.

Hall has the tendency to make plays a bit more dramatic than necessary, sometimes.

Similar question, but how fast does an infielder throw a ball? Like for pitchers the mid-90's is considered good, what is it for infielders, or even outfielders?
