stat heads, I need your help

ok I am in a sim league where there are 24 teams, we're around 20% done and we been discussing what is most important in pitching, offence and deffence and how to give it a rating.

becuase we want to come out with power rankings.

 

any advice?

I don't know about sim leagues, but this is how I view the real world:

 

Offense = 50%

Pitching = 45% (starters 30%, relievers 15% roughly)

Fielding = 5%

 

Think of a balance, for every run an offense scores, the defense allowed it. Unearned runs account for 10% of all runs, hence the ratio of pitching to fielding is 9:1.

ok, but now I have to choose stats. like ops. era.......

how many Def stats and which ones? same question for hitting and pitching,

Offense:

 

I'd use linear weights, to give relative values for walks,singles, doubles, HRs, etc...

 

Defense:

 

Man, who the hell knows. Zone rating and the like aren't very compelling to me. ESPN lists a few, I'd just use theirs.

 

Pitching:

 

I'm a DIPS guy, so I am more concerned with HR/inning, BB/inning and K/inning. You could also use OPS against.
