Matt Olson

I know it's just speculation on their part, but the Reviewing the Brew website posted a story on potential teams that could be good trade partners with the Brewers this winter - to help us improve our offense.

The third team they mentioned was the A's (as more of a "sleeper" team), and they specifically listed Matt Olson as a possibility.

So, my question would be: what would it take to get a guy like Olson, and would we even have the pieces to make a deal work with the A's? Or, is this just a pipedream that would probably never come to fruition?

Here's my first stab here:

Brewers get Olson

A's get Houser, Turang and Feliciano

I would wonder more on Freddy Peralta as the headliner vs Houser. Full cost control disclosed for the A's. They like these kind of pitchers. Manea, Minor, Gray previously. Fiers recently. Seems like the spot Stearns likes to use his draft pick which is higher and after last year's draft should be valued more on the players that will be available to draft there. Throw in a cpl lotto lower level guys.

So Olson for Daniel Missaki, Carlos Herrera, and Freddy Peralta? Kind of full circle back to getting a 1B? :laughing

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Only we have 3yrs control of said 1b. But nice on idea.

Maybe just add Tristan Lutz and call it a day. Looked at his stats and I could easily see him being intriguing as a near breakout acquire before he did. While Milw gets better for 2021, I'd imagine Oakland wins this trade by 2024.

Edit add, Does Oakland have a 1b to replace Olson? Not creating a hole for them?

Yeah, that was my concern with this idea as well - as I think it would create a big hole for Oakland at 1B. But, they could always go out and get one of the F/A 1B on a cheap 1-2 year deal to fill that hole for a couple of years? They also have Canha, who I think can play some 1B.

If the A's do make Olson available though, I'd have to think there would be other teams that would enter the bidding for him - and I'm guessing we wouldn't be able to put the best package on the table for the A's. Would love to have him though if we could make something work.

If the A's wanted to get really crazy and fill some pretty big Brewer holes, I would have a lot of interest in an Olson and Chapman deal. I have no clue what they would want or what would be realistic, but I would be willing to part with Garrett Mitchell, Turang, Peralta and one of Small or Ashby if it meant keeping Burnes and Woodruff. A middle of the lineup of Hiura-Yelich-Chapman-Olson looks quite nice paired with Burnes-Woodruff at the top of the rotation.

Yes please!

Heck, for those two in the same deal I would go Mitchell, Turang, Peralta, Small or Ashby, Lutz - and I might even be willing to throw in a Feliciano?

Man, our farm system would be absolutely decimated, but we'd have 1B and 3B taken care of for the next few years.

If you wanted to, you could then try to trade Hader (either this winter or next summer) to help restock the farm system a bit?

With all of this said - I'd put the chances of a deal like this at less than .00001%. But, fun to think about at least!

The A's will need bullpen help but I am not sure if the A's would do a Olson for Hader swap. That is really the only option that I can think of right now that the A's would possibly accept. Maybe a Hiura for Olson might be something the A's would do also but I am not sure that would even happen.

I think CWH was making a joke. Basically Adam Lind for Matt Olson...win?

Exactly. Missaki isn't even with the club (nor MLB) anymore. He is pitching in Japan.

Agree. I think posters here are overvaluing what Hader is worth. Exciting as he is, relievers/closers just aren't worth as much as starters and everyday position players. There is a good chance that he gets traded, and if so he'll bring back a decent return. I just think some people here will be disappointed at what we get back.
