Adam Rygg hears indications that Wisconsin's Hayden Cantrelle and his unique .175/.376/.313 line (.690 OPS) is heading to Biloxi.

17-year-old (turns 18 in November) LH-hitting OF Hendry Mendez who has posted a .903 OPS in his first 52 pro at-bats, has been brought stateside from the Dominican League.

 

His .308/.403/.500 line includes only two strikeouts in those 52 AB's (seven walks).

Baseball America reports the Brewers have released 22-year-old 1B/DH Kevin Hardin. Hardin was drafted in the 33rd round in 2019 out of a Missouri community college.

 

Listed at 6'4", 245, the LH-bat had yet to debut in 2021. In Maryvale in 2019, he slugged five home runs in 141 AB's but with a .206/298/.362 line (.660 OPS).

According to the Carolina roster page, it appears as if Binelas, Murray and Jefferson Figueroa have all been moved up to the Mudcats.

 

Between this and the Cantrelle news, I wonder if Valerio and one of the other infielders (Zamora, Holt or McGee) will be moving up to Wisconsin. The Timber Rattlers would appear to be a little sparse on the infield right now.

I would certainly think Valerio has earned a promotion at this point. He hits for average, has some power and he's walked more than he's struck out. Get this man to Wisconsin!

Yeah, I'm shocked that Valerio hasn't gotten a promotion yet. What more does this kid have to prove down at Carolina? Is it his defense that's holding him back?

Looks like they are making room in Arizona for some of the drafted pitchers to start playing. They have 8 pitchers plus 3 UDFA pitchers to find room for between the two Arizona clubs and Carolina. It will be fun to see what these guys can do.

I don’t believe there’s been any word on Carolina LHP Jason Munsch, who hasn’t played since July 14th.

With injuries suddenly reducing the Carolina Mudcats to 13 active pitchers (including Jason Munsch, who hasn't played in nearly a month), here's hoping for some new additions to the staff

Munsch then pitched on Wednesday August 17th, a clean two-thirds of an inning.

 

Two days later, on Friday the 19th, the Mudcats listed that he had been released, meaning his Brewers career lasted five appearances (one start).

 

Munsch was a non-drafted signee after the five-round 2020 draft. This August 2020 article provided us with background on him.

Hopefully this tweet from Darren McGee means that utility man (well, corner infielder this year) Ashton McGee is getting the deserved promotion to High-A Wisconsin. He hit his 10th homer including his 2nd grand slam today, whilst raising his OPS to .953. I guess we’ll know more by Tuesday.

 

 

Of course, SS Freddy Zamora and 1B/OF Ernesto Martinez also have terrific cases for promotion.
