I'm absolutely appalled - but not shocked - at the lack of media acknowledgement/awareness of what Howard said to Gard before Gard touched him.

Deadspin has been worthless for about a decade now, and decided to reinforce that today. (Let's not acknowledge what their opinion is and stir that pot for the moderators' collective sake; let's just acknowledge that Deadspin is worthless.)

I was on the road that day so missed the game and caught up later but it is pretty clear what Howard said and it was hardly ignored in anything I saw other than omitting the last word which doesn’t change anything, what he said is actually a big part of the story. I am not really even sure what you are talking about here.

I think its overlooked by many who take the "gard put his hands on him so he started it and/or is to blame". Reality was it was started by Howard insulting and cursing at him. Plus of course by him leaving his starters in to full court and picking on Higginbottom on national TV.

I know it's the slow sports time of year, but this kerfuffle should have been swallowed by the 24-hour news cycle several days ago. It's starting to feel like Howard smacked an Italian Sausage with a baseball bat.

Nah...this was a rarity in sport, any sport. Deserves the attention its getting. Coach hits assistant coach after altercation in handshake line? Great talking points for coaches and athletes at every level.

This, specifically the first two sentences.

With OSU winning in Illinois, the Badgers control their destiny for an outright B1G title. Wow.

If they can beat Rutgers Saturday, that Purdue game is likely for all the marbles. Can't lose a home game against Nebraska. If you do, with the title on the line, you should drop about 3 seed lines.

Anyway, getting ahead of myself. Really need a win in NJ. Get that, and the big national spotlight is in Madison next week. Rutgers will be playing for its tourney life again. Going to be tough.

Purdue also plays @MSU on Saturday, which is far from a gimme. UCLA lost to Oregon tonight as well, which could help UW from a seed perspective. Fun time of year for a college bball fan!

Down goes Purdue
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Yeah, good finish to that game (though it makes me a little sick to root for Sparty--I actually like Purdue).

Doesn't change the calculus much for an outright title. Still have to win out.

Does really improve the odds of a share, though. Go 2-1 in any combo, and you got it.

Also, Davis gets some pretty weak fouls called against him while not getting drawing very many

That first half was classic Bo Borowski. One end clutching grabbing banging and no whistle. The other end everything is a foul.

That’s one of the most impressive wins of the season in my opinion.

And it goes as Q2 because of Rutgers' weird resume. Ho hum. Another big, tough Badger W.

Can win at least at share by beating Nebraska at home, but I'm good with getting greedy.

This team is special...and different. I've gotten used to Badger teams that play un-emotional quality basketball on every single monotonous possession, both offensively and defensively. And I've liked it over the years, with many conference championships, sweet 16s and even Final Fours on their resume. But this team plays emotionally to the level of their competition, for both good and bad, and I can't quite get a handle on them. You ARE what your record says you are. I hope.

Kohl Center still draws. It’s usually top 10 in attendance. Does this translate proportionately to being loud and a great atmosphere for college basketball? I still think so.

However, after Bo Ryan, Frank, and Sam left, it has been a bit of a downer in Madison. Not as good atmosphere as before. Still very good, though, especially when top ranked teams come. They went from back to back Final Fours to a bit better than fringe tourney teams over the last 7 years. I can see why enthusiasm is a bit down for both Badger BB and FB. We have seen better Badger teams recently or have hoped for better teams and have fell short often. This Badger BB team has hopes up, though. We’ll see how the crowd is against Purdue in March.

Crowd should be off the hook against Purdue…
