Wisconsin Basketball Thread 2021-2022

I am thinking tonight's game will be for a #2 seed. If Wisconsin wins they will likely win the title outright and despite their NET ranking the committee won't ignore that with the rest of their resume. If Purdue wins they likely get a share and have been ranked highly all year so they get a 2 for sure. Still have the Big ten tourney but that's only 1 loss at most for anyone, if anything that is just an opportunity for the loser tonight to move up. I am not sure if a #1 seed is still an option for Badgers but if they won out it would be interesting. Crazy to be even talking about it.

I don't think anyone is assured a #2 after tonight. If either one won the B10 tourney and the other got bounced before that championship that could swing things. Especially if said team were to beat Illinois.

Okay, IF the Badgers win their last two games: They would be undisputed Big Ten champions with a record of 25-5. They would be 8-3 in Quad 1 games. 12-2 in road and neutral site games. They have a low NET, but would have a 6-2 record against the teams ahead of them in the NET. The Big 10, depending on the ranking you use, is either the 2nd or third strongest conference. KenPom has UW with the 14th strongest schedule. In almost every other year, that is the resume of a 1-seed. And it should comfortably put them ahead of Purdue, since they would be two games clear of them in the conference with a 2-0 head-to-head.

If they lose tonight, then they are probably in the 2-3 range. If they win, I consider a 2-seed their floor. I hope the committee reads Brewerfan. They can PM me for more bracketology gold.

There is a lot of competition for those seeds though. The Big 12 could poach a lot of those Top 8 seeds between Kansas/Texas Tech/Baylor. If Texas Tech finishes off strong it is pretty likely all three of those teams are 1/2s. Not to mention Arizona, Auburn, Duke, Kentucky, and Gonzaga.

Might be a stretch for the Big Ten to end up with no 1/2...but there is the possibility. Especially if Wisconsin went and flopped in their first game of the Big Ten tourney. Purdue could still end up a #2 if they went and won out in that scenario.

Davison gets absolutely screwed on a charge call because no one wants to let him get away with a flop.

Yea, that was terrible. Was literally standing there for 3 seconds.

Vogt is having a game.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Hard has to be favorite for national COY. Maybe Tommy Lloyd and Ed Cooley have a case, but wow.

Pretty lucky win, but that doesn't make it feel any less good. Beat Nebraska and finish.

Holy crap when Davison missed that FT and Ivey went down and nailed the 3 I was like NOOOOO!!!! but before I finished Chucky banked it in and was YESSS!!! Crazy how fast it all happened what a finish.

Everybody and their grandma knew Davidson was going to miss that free throw once the announcers glorified how awesome he is at shooting free throws.

Quite an amazing season for a team that was preseason #10 in the conference! Should be a fun tourney.

Congrats Bucky fans! Gotta feel oh so good given where they predicted the Badger would finish. Excited to see what happens from here.

Wonder how many B10 guys head for the NBA after this season?

Ivey and Davis are the headliners but there are several others I could see trying to make the jump.

Pretty remarkable that a little over 2 years ago Gard seemed headed towards dismissal, now he's won 2 conference titles in three years. We'll never know what noise that 19-20 team would have made in the tourneys, but I'm VERY excited to see what this team does.

As a Kansas fan (top overall team that year) I still groan even thinking about that canceled tourney. Then of course Wisconsin won the mock tourney.

Worst though...the poor Dayton Flyers. 29-2 and were going to be a one seed.

Sure this seems lucky and all due to the banks. But, they were consistently ahead the entire game. They also got super unlucky that 90% ft shooter missed or none of it would've been needed. Plus, the fact they were somehow not in double bonus at that point.

Quite the ride this year. Probably my favorite or most fun title in this Bo/Gard era. Would be between this one or the original Kirk Penny one in like 03 where they came out of nowhere too

Any CBB selection committee who doesn't consult Brewerfan on the regular is simply not worth its salt. ;)

A retired prof shares his basketball season tickets with us and we get the weeknight games, so this was our last game of the season and first in six weeks. It was the first time in several years (like years before the pandemic) that I deployed earplugs and I am glad I brought them. When it was loud, it was borderline overwhelming for me. There were also numerous times when it felt like the crowd was collectively holding its breath, it was so quiet.

Nice time at the Kohl. I'm happy for these guys for defying and exceeding expectations and having fun along the way.

Now, here's hoping it's not our last sporting event to attend until fall 2022. :rolleyes

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I feel a little bad for Dad. He has season tickets but gave away last night's so he could go watch my nephew play his final high school game. Obviously the correct decision, though obviously a sucky decision to have to make.

Guess he will just have to get tickets to Milwaukee. ;)

Penn St giving Illinois all they can handle and then some. Tie game with 5 minutes left.
