Really quality SP candidates for our Lower Levels tonight. Very excited to see Jordan, Shook, Herb, and Perdomo! Herb and Shook, in particular have had very dominant outings in the recent past. Here’s hoping they can keep silencing bats!

High-A Wisconsin (12-9) returns home to face Fort Wayne (11-10) this week, reeling from losing 6 of their last 7 games. RHP TJ Shook (1.37 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 12.4 K/9 in 19 2/3 innings) is on the mound to right the ship, while newly-promoted DH/OF Micah Bello (.994 OPS in 70 plate appearances to lead Low-A Carolina) is batting 7th:

Pretty pumped about the Frelick-Mitchell-Wiemer outfield in Biloxi.

Well, what's more, when Felix is healthy we are looking at an OF rotation of Valerio-Frelick-Wiemer-Mitchell. <Cue your sexiest gifs here>. It's going to be challenging for Noah Campbell to find playing time unless he can start platooning elsewhere.

Our Low-A Mudcats (11-10) are home this week, taking on the Augusta GreenJackets (12-9), with 23-year old RHP Brannon Jordan (3.38 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 14.1 K/9) making his 5th start or long appearance of the season. Incredibly, Carolina’s lineup has gotten younger, as 18-year old phenom CF Jackson Chourio has skipped Arizona Rookie ball and will make his official stateside debut in Zebulon tonight:

1 - Hendry Mendez - RF
2 - Eduardo Garcia - SS
3 - Jackson Chourio - CF
4 - Jeferson Quero - C
5 - Hedbert Perez - DH
6 - Jesus Chirinos - 1B
7 - Jheremy Vargas - 2B
8 - Arbert Cipion - LF
9 - Alberis Ferrer - 3B
X - Brannon Jordan - P

AA Biloxi (12-9) is on the road this week to take on the Montgomery Biscuits (9-11), with the solid RHP Tyler Herb (1.96 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 9.8 K/9 in 18 1/3 innings) starting the opener. 2021 1st round pick LF Sal Frelick (.847 OPS in 92 plate appearances at Wisconsin) will lead off, making his Shucker debut after being elevated from High-A over the weekend, while Super 2B Felix Valerio returns from injury:

After a 3-2 series win last week, 1st place Nashville (16-7) returns home to face the Norfolk Tides (12-12) this week. RHP Luis Perdomo (0.96 ERA, 0.64 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 in 9 1/3 innings) will serve as an opener (likely for RHP Jason Alexander). Big bopper DH Tyler White (5 home runs in 56 at-bats) bats third:

I'm tuned in live ready to watch Biloxi in Montgomery. I can not tell you how excited I am to see Frelick leading off! This is a sneak peak at our potential Big League future. We have a Frelick LF, Mitchell CF, and Wiemer RF look tonight.

We will remember Sal Frelick's first AB as a sky high pop out to the Montgomery Biscuits SS Greg JonesFelix Valerios back in the lineup is MUSIC to my ears.

Montgomery is loading up the Lefties vs RHP Tyler Herb. A couple of deeeeeeeep doubles early. It's 1-0 Biscuits on a couple choice Montgomery ground outs advancing and scoring their lead-off batter.

Freddy Zamora looks like an arriving player right now. I think we might see a talented young player waking up. Two very heads up defensive plays here in the bottom half of inning 1. He ran down a deeeeeep and strange carom off the LF wall leaving all OF's scrambling. An extremely athletic slide and scoop and turn and throw held the lead-off runner at second. He followed that by a smooth snag of a looping line drive headed for left center. To boot, he missed a HR down the LF line by roughly 8-10' in his first AB (batting in the two-hole). I thought it was gone. Love to see him playing in this way. THIS is the Freddy we know is in there.

JOE JOE Wiemmmmmmmmmer. HR number 4 off the bottom of the scoreboard in deep left center on a 3-1 count. Booooooo-Ya! HR number 4 on the young season. 1-1!

Herb works around a couple uncharacteristic 'Where's the Zone?' walks (honestly, if I faced 8 LHB as a RHP I would probably lose my cool too!) and gets the classic 6-4-3 dp to end the Bottom half of the 2nd. Tip of the cap to Felix Valerio with the violent turn and throw to ensure the throw out at First. 1-1.

It's a 'Welcome Home Chourio' party for Carolina! 12-1 into the Top of the 6th. Batting 3rd and playing CF he is 2 of 4 with 2 rbi on the evening with a double. Welcome to the Minors, Jackson! Cam Jordan goes 5 complete of 1 (unearned) run ball.

Let's cheers the beers to Zavier Warren! He continues to show he might just be the guy to take over the yeoman's work for High-A Wisconsin. He is a part of everything lately and it's no different tonight. 3-0 Wisconsin and Zavi is 2-3 with 2 rbi's!

Also, some recognition is definitely in order for Harold Chirino in Biloxi. He is absolutely dialed in this early season. Tonight is no different. He is entering his 10th inning pitched in relief and he has a sub-1 ERA and he is just dealing with his slider. Love to see it.

I'm going to pretend I didn't see Freddy Zamora's 10th (!!) error on this young season in the Bottom of the 8th. Instead, I will focus on the positive: With 1 down he roped a double to the deep left field wall. He was driven in by a Garrett Mitchell single and it's 2-1 headed to the bottom of the 9th. Lucas Erceg on for the close. Come on Lucas!

Welp, this is Lucas Erceg's 2022. First batter faced: not given any benefit of the doubt on two very close pitches called balls. Next pitch, he gives up a well-hit HR to the LF to Montgomery CF Cameron Misner and it's a tie game. The now LHP, Erceg, is 1-3 on Save oppty's on the young season. 2-2. Let's see if he can hold the game for extras.

Lucas Erceg can not Save the game and he can not extend it. After giving up the HR, he proceeds to give up a single. A single. And a rope line drive to deep Center. Shuckers lose 2-3 and Erceg is now 0-2 on the season.

Norfolk tallies 2 runs in the top of the 8th on 3 singles to take a 5-4 lead. Uncharacteristically, the Sounds cough up the lead. Let's see if they can rally for the second time in this game - they have not scored since the 3rd.

Great to see the organization has this kind of confidence in Chourio. There were other options if they didn't think he was ready, and there was no reason to push him if he wasn't.

He is now the youngest active player in the entire Minor League system (Low-A to Triple-A, obviously). Quite exciting and quite the debut!
