Meanwhile, in the West, C Brett Sullivan made his MLB Padres debut on April 22nd! He's still with the Padres as, apparently back-up C Luis Campusano is on the 10-Day IL. What's more? I checked today's Box Score (5/3) and Sullivan is 2-for-2 with a 2B and a two-run HR for all 4 of the Padres current runs. Incredible. Keep it up, Mr. Sullivan!

Sullivan, claimed by the Brewers in the fall of ‘21, traded with Korry Howell for Victor Caratini in the spring of ‘22, never played for the big league Brewers nor an affiliate. Still happy for the “phantom Brewer”.

Released on April 25th --

INF Luis Watter turned 20 years old this past January. The Dominican native was part of the July 2019 signing class but then had to delay his pro debut until 2021 due to the pandemic. Over the past two summers, Watter posted a .649 OPS and was successful in 21 of 23 stolen base attempts. Watter only slugged .300, but one of his ten XBH's in 230 pro AB's was a home run. Watter had signed for $35,000. He was listed at 5'8", but that was at the time of his contract signing as a 16-year-old.

***

UPDATE: Congrats to Luis! Signed on 5/23 by the Tigers, still at the DSL level for now.

Lucas Erceg went 3 hitless against the Braves today with 4 strikeouts. He currently has 7 IP with a 1.29 ERA, 2.15 FIP, 3.29 xFIP and 12.89 K/9. Super happy for him excelling for the A's but equally bummed it isn't happening with us.

It is bittersweet. He definitely showed these flashes with the Sounds but he simply wasn't able to maintain it. Here's hoping he can continue running with this opportunity. Not to be missed on this same Oakland ballclub is the continued really solid job OF Esteury Ruiz continues to do in the lead-off slot. Last I checked 25 SB. 0.272 BA. 23 RBI. Just having a fantastic debut FT season.

Reese Olson making his MLB debut for the Tigers this week. (Anyone know what Daniel Norris is doing these days?) Wish him luck but will always regret trading him away for Norris.

INF Pablo Reyes added to the Red Sox 40-man roster and brought up to the big league club.

And, this was after he was traded to Boston by the Oakland Athletics for ye old 'cash considerations'. He was not on Oakland's active roster but was playing for their Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas (PCL).

Since the call up, a day after Boston's acquisition, Reyes has seen steady action in 23 Games where he has registered 59 AB's. After tonight's 2-for-4 performance in the 9-hole, Reyes is hitting 0.305 BA, 0.706 OPS, 6 R, 4 2B, 9 RBI, 3 BB, 7 K, 1 S, 1 CS.

Ryan Aguilar, who was a nice surprise MLB debut story in 2022, was released by the Angels.

Speaking of MLB debuts, congrats to David Hamilton, pinch-runner extraordinaire.

Reese Olson racked up a career-high nine strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings of one-run baseball against the Twins on Saturday to earn his first big league victory.

The 23-year-old right-hander allowed just four hits and one walk on the evening. The lone tally against him came on a monstrous solo homer off the bat of Carlos Correa in the sixth inning. Olson generated 13 swings and misses on 88 pitches in the ballgame -- 11 of those on his slider -- while registering an elite CSW of 36 percent.

Wonder what Norris is doing these days...  Just a horrible trade.

Even most of the transactions I disagree with, I can at least understand the rationale behind them. That one never made a lick of sense to me.

I can honestly say, I was not anticipating this in my Minor League/MLB transactions scanning:

Quote

The Giants released catcher Jacob Nottingham from their Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento, per the league transaction log. Nottingham’s departure from the organization dovetails with the Giants’ recent signing of fellow catcher Jakson Reetz to a minor league deal.
