I would.
Look, he’s had a poor second half.  It this team doesn’t have the resources to sell off the few blue chip players they do have, and if Burnes is dealt, you know it’s going to be for prospects that might arrive in 2-3 years.

I’m tired of playing kick the can down the road. We’re perpetually playing for “next year”.

Keep the big three, and hope they can stay healthy. And the defense has to be improved. That’s been a real letdown this year.

And we need somebody besides Yelich that can get on base.

I agree with this.   Stick with the starters and hope they bounce back

Very impressed with the quality of the ABs by the Mets tonight. Just really impressive from the neck up.

Contrast that with the bottom of the 7th. Tellez homers to give you, for the first time in the game, some momentum. One out, bases clear. Two pitches later the inning is over. I mean you might as well send two cavemen up to the plate.

"ME HIT HOME RUN, TOO!!!!"

The philosophy is changing as evidenced by the recent drafts, and it's long overdue.

Also a horrible inning from Topa, for a # of reasons.

Yeli’s OBP is up to .362, 8th best in the  NL, and .003 from 5th.

That’s something positive to take away, isn’t it?

I guess I’m trying to find a silver lining.

See what is out there. If someone gives up the farm for Burnes, you have to listen, right? If the price isn’t high, keep him.

Topa's delivery has all kinds of red flags from excessive stress on the elbow to very easy to pick up out of the hand.

I agree. It is something. Significant and badly needed on this hacking team.

The prospects they received for Hader are, at least on paper, guys who would be in position to contribute sooner than 2-3 years. Not advocating for Burnes to be dealt but if he is I believe it will be for more immediate help.

Peralta since the ASB had gone 1-1 with a 2.27 ERA, so I wouldn’t say he’s been garbage, though his FIP has been substantially higher (4.33) because of the 4 home runs allowed in only 31 innings, and a SO/BB of just over 2.

He’s back on the DL again, so clearly health has been a major factor in his inconsistency.

You’re right.  I thought peralta hasn’t been more than a glorified long reliever after the break.  But he did have some good 5-6 inning starts.   He was decent

The Brewers as a franchise have never been able to develop starting pitching. Not until recently.

Burnes and Woodruff were 1-2 in the Majors in park adjusted ERA last year. There’s no way we’d get talent commensurate to Burnes’ talent and ceiling. He’s been a top 3-4 starter in the Majors since the start of last year until just the last few weeks.

You don’t send that fish back.

I feel strongly that next year, if healthy, Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta and Ashby will be a top 3 rotation in baseball. We made a commitment to pitching and defense, so we should stick to that. To borrow from The Godfather part III, we need to make sure all our ships are sailing in the same direction.

Adames has evolved into an elite defensive shortstop. Wong has to go. The defense needs to be improved for those pitchers to have the best chance at staying healthy. A porous defense will force them to labor.

Then add payroll and go for it in 2023 and 2024? You could sell that and I would buy. I doubt MA is thinking add payroll with attendance down.

We didn’t draw a single walk, and struck out 13 times.

We had nearly as many errors (1) as runs, and had 4 hits.

Just pathetic fundamental baseball.

I’d be very surprised if that happened. The time to extend our payroll was before the 2021 and 2022 seasons when the great pitching window just opened. I don’t see it happening now that the window is almost closed.

Going for it in 2023 makes sense. Sell at the trade deadline if we aren't a playoff team. Going for it in 2024 does not make sense, unless you've somehow gotten Woodruff and Burnes to sign extensions. I want more than a draft pick for them.
