I wonder how he could have done under different ownership? I always felt he was hamstrung by the Seligs.

At the time, his FA signing was a huge deal.  Obtaining a member of the Amazing A's three-peat team.  This signaled the transition for the Brewers from being a struggling expansion team to a legitimate team.

Indeed.  It was a BIG deal for the lowly Brewers to land a star player like Bando.

I was impressed that he lived out the rest of his post-Brewers days in the area.  That's meaningful.

He was involved in a lot of charity work, and by all accounts, was an upstanding guy.

The Brewers signing Bando legitimized the franchise.

And certainly I have no way of knowing, but I always believed that Bando went out of his way to take the heat for unpopular decisions that were more likely coming from Bud and Wendy.
