Doing the math, the price of more than doubling the pay of all minor leaguers is $2.8M to each team.  So roughly the addition of 4 major leaguers at minimum salary.  Sad it took this long to do this.

Could say a lot, but mostly happy for the players. In my mind the next round they should advocate for a joint pension type set-up with MLB, where you'd get credit for total years of service (also very helpful for players who have their service time messed with). Obviously a career minor league wouldn't get the same level of benefit payout.

This should shed a bright light on the true commitment and sacrifices these young men make to chase their dreams. I have the utmost and deepest of respect for their efforts. I will always cheer for the dream chasers.

AND this is precisely why I will always advocate for those fringe and rotating roster spots at the MLB level to be used as try outs for the lower level guys. Keep giving them opportunities, please. They deserve it and they deserve more than one shot. This is a monumental feat for the players union and It still is not enough given the economics of 2023. That is all I will say on the matter.

It's far more than that with additional payroll taxes and potential benefits, but I'm certainly not going to disagree that it's a huge step in the right direction. I personally don't think minor leaguers need like 70k a year or anything considering all else that teams provide, but you don't want your guys needing to tend bar on the side to make ends meat. The whole purpose of the system is training and developing. If you're a guy needing to put 20-30 hours a week into a side job, you're losing to everyone else in the minors who's putting those 20-30 hours into the weight room or fielding work or the pitching lab.

I think the salaries are still too low, especially after taxes. They probably should be at least 50% higher. These guys are pro baseball players, and they need to be able to put in the time to do the work.
