Oh boy. Hopefully he looks better than he did last week in Wisconsin. If not Biloxi could be playing from behind early.

The Low-A Mudcats face an elimination game, down 1-0 in their best-of-3 series and playing at Down East tonight. RHP Patricio Aquino (2.75 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 8.8 K/9 in 88.1 IP) gets the start and the squad has 3 lineup changes from Game 1: Luke Adams, Daniel Guilarte and Luis Castillo, replacing Hall, Barrios and Nicasia.

AAA Nashville targets a 3rd straight win in Charlotte, with RHP Janson Junk (4.46 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 6.0 K/9 in 125 IP) making tonight’s start. 3B Abraham Toro’s on-base streak is up to 34 games (including 4 games in MLB).

2022 first round pick SS Eric Brown Jr. makes his first start in AA ball and rehabbing LHP Aaron Ashby gets the start, as Biloxi needs a home victory over Montgomery to avoid being put on the brink of elimination from the playoffs. 3B Brock Wilken aims to homer for the 3rd consecutive game.

1B Owen Miller’s first plate appearance for Nashville since being optioned 3 days ago is a 3-run homer in the 1st inning, scoring Blake Perkins (double) and Abraham Toro (walk). 3-0 Sounds lead early!

Guys……could somebody give me a quick scouting report on Shane Smith?

What is the arsenal?

From @Smichaelis9: “Armed with a mid-90’s fastball and a sharp curveball that he often goes to as his “out’ pitch, Smith also mixes in a cutter that shows good shape and life as well. He may also be mixing in a slider, but it’s very possible that those are just cutters that are generating a bit more movement than average.”

Sounds like Areinamo is having a very rough night in the field so far. Just had an error followed up by a single. It's 1st and 3rd for the Wood Ducks with 1 out in the 4th. Score 0-0

Aquino pitches out of it! He strikes out the first hitter to get it to 2 outs then induced a swinging bunt on an 0-2 count from the next hitter. Sibrian made the play at 1B to end the inning.

Juan Baez singles, Guilarte walked, Castillo singled to LF and Baez scored on a close play at home. Guilarte advanced to 3B on the throw home. O'Rae then hits a liner to LF for a sac fly. It's 2-0 Mudcats in the 5th.

Wilken with a 105 EV blast to CF that I imagine was only caught because the wind blew it back in. Shuckers have looked like the better team today. Just not getting balls to drop.

Patricio Aquino has twirled an absolute gem tonight. 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO, 1 HBP and he's at 80 pitches. I imagine he's done for the day, but we shall see.

Mejias just gave up an absolute bomb with 2 outs in the 5th. 2-run HR. It's 2-0 Montgomery through 5. Biloxi's offense is going to have to show up. They haven't shown much outside of that big 7 run inning in this series.

Posted

Mejias walks Peters to lead off the 6th inning and Caminero reaches on a chopper to 3rd that Wilken would probably want a second chance on. It's 1st and 2nd with 0 outs. Things aren't looking good for Mejias and Biloxi.

Posted

Mejias first pitch to Murray is way outside and goes to the backstop. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs. This one is getting late early.

Posted

Mejias gets down in the count 3-1 then gives up a line drive bullet HR to RF. It's 6-0 Montgomery. Looking like Biloxi is going to need to win the final 3 games of the series to get into the playoffs.

The Mudcats are up 5-0 in the bottom of the 8th and Jesus Rivero cannot throw a strike. He's already walked 2 hitters and is down 2-1 on the third hitter of the inning.
