ZEBULON – The Milwaukee Brewers recently announced a series roster transactions affecting the Carolina Mudcats active roster. The announced moves include INF Juan Baez reinstated from the 7-day IL and promotion of RHP Aidan Maldonado from the Mudcats to A+ Wisconsin

The Carolina Mudcats roster is currently at 30 active players and 4 on the injured list.

Biloxi Press Release:

BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers and Milwaukee Brewers have announced that RHP Sam Gardner has been reinstated from the 7-Day Injured List. The active roster now stands at 28 players.

Gardner was previously placed on the 7-Day Injured List on May 27, 2024, and made two appearances with the ACL Brewers on rehab assignment, striking out five over 2.1 innings. Over 14 relief appearances with the Shuckers, Gardner has a 3.09 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.

I see the rehabbing players listed for Nashville, but didn't know if the Biloxi or Wisconsin line-ups have any transactional players in it?

Should you wish to discuss David Stearns picking up RHP TJ Shook in this deal (I imagine @Joseph Zarr may wish to), feel free to do so here.

However, regarding the newest member of the Brewers' 40-man roster (yes, can be optioned), please make use of the thread that was started on the Major League side.

RHP TJ Shook. What can I say? One of my favorite unheralded, under-appreciated, under-discussed talented arms in the system. The 2020 undrafted FA worked his way up the organizational ladder into the Swiss army knife of the Shuckers pitching staff the past two seasons. When TJ was locating in or near the zone, he was as good a starter as most in the Brewers system. Ever the selfless teammate, however, he filled any and all roles for the Shuckers pitching staff and was nearly always available. I personally think his best days are ahead. And, I personally think the Brewers sold Low here. He had shown the ability to strike batters out at a near 28% clip to a reduced walk rate of just 8 % this season - improved numbers building off his fantastic close to 2023. His change-up has shown flashes of being one of the better pitches in the system. And, when he's on his game, his heat has plus movement. The Brewers love their AAAA pool of arms, and Jay will most certainly enter that Mix. But, I like this trade much better for the Mets today than I do the Brewers. Again, these are just my opinions. Sad to see TJ go but I will most certainly be following him in the Mets system.

Full-Season IL: Galindez, Low, and now Reyes

60-Day IL: Nicasia, Perez, Calzadilla, Birchard, Woodward

7-Day IL: Rivero

Unknown Injury Designation: Morelo

So, to that end, I have 6 on the temporary IL. I have 3 confirmed out for the season. One unknown. And, then, I see 30 active players. Am I missing something?

Not surprising. The ACL staff was a massive struggle. Mogollon started out with Carolina and just could not control his pitches. His last game with the Muddies was just tough to watch. Sadly his could not improve his control in Arizona. Wish them all well, and hope they can find success with another organization. The domestic player limit has shortened the leash for players in the lower ranks.

Hopefully Tyler can get his groove back (consistent velocity) and get back to some prospect status again.

Man, this sucks. Mogollon was one of the guys I followed more closely than others. He was terrific last year and I really thought he would be able to get the walks down. I truly hope he and the other guys released land on their feet.

Mogollon lost  all control this year. As a now 20 year old who struggled first in low A, and then in the ACL

The 165 player rule having an effect. He should hopefully find a team willing to take a chance on him as there is talent, and maybe a change of scenery, or a different voice can help him with consistency/location/control. Good luck to him and the others. The leashes will be much shorter for players in the ACL/A clubs with the roster limits and the influx of 30-50 players each year (indy signing, MLB draft, DSL promotions) being added to the organizational depth charts.

Quick question - do the signed draft picks count to the 165 limit if they are not assigned to a club yet?
