AAA Nashville gets a second chance to clinch a 4-2 series win in Durham, with rehabbing RHP Taylor Clarke making his first appearance since March 17 (spring training). 1B Tyler Black (.905 OPS in 123 PAs) returns to the lineup and the field 2 days after fouling a ball off his foot.

The High-A Timber Rattlers also have a chance for a 4-2 series win at Quad Cities. RHP Edwin Jimenez (5.74 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 6.1 K/9 in 26.2 IP) makes his 6th start. Can 2B Dylan O’Rae triple for a 3rd straight day?

Nice to see Black back in the lineup after a potential injury scare.

Workhorse RHP TJ Shook (3.34 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 10.9 K/9 in 29,2 IP) makes his 3rd start in 11 days, aiming to lead AA Biloxi to a home series win over Montgomery. 3B/1B Mike Boeve has hit safely in 12 of 13 games, while 1B/CF Ernesto Martinez remains absent after leaving Friday’s game early.

The Adam Seminaris injury has reduced Biloxi to 5 long men, while the Yujanyer Herrera promotion and (hopeful) return of Logan Henderson has Wisconsin at 8-9 long men.

Someone’s likely moving up to Biloxi, but it’s not crystal clear who. Mark Manfredi’s the oldest and gets the most Ks, but has limited experience. Brian Fitzpatrick is next-oldest, with the best K/BB ratio, but has limited High-A innings. Edwin Jimenez has been in High-A the longest. Alexander Cornielle is coming around nicely.

Clarke pitched just 1 inning (4 batters, 11 pitches), so it is indeed LHP Aaron Ashby who’ll get the lion’s share of the work today, 5 days after his last start.

Hitters challenged 4 strike 3 calls in the first 4 innings and were denied each time. The home plate ump will be feeling great.

Nashville leads 3 (Miller, Collins, Kahle) homers to 1, and by a score of 4-2.

And Ashby thru 5IP, 7K 5H but only 1BB and 1HBP.  That’s a step forward right?

TRats do TRats things. Homer scores two. Then Lara hit, stole base, ORae hit. He tries to steal but pinch gets by catcher for a passed ball that scores Lara and lets ORae get to third. Hall gets HBP (now he’s officially a TRat right). Wood grounds out. But TRats up 3-0

Rays’ #19 prospect LHP Ian Seymour has been mowing down the Shuckers, retiring the first 12 batters including Ks of 4 of the first 7 he faced. An unearned run has Biloxi behind Montgomery 1-0.

It’s the 7th inning. You have a day off tomorrow. Aaron Ashby had given a nice 5 frames. Sure, he was only at about 68 pitches, but can’t we let him have one good day? 😢

He goes out for an extra frame: single, single, walk, mound visit, still staying in.

Sounds 7, Bulls 3, but there’s trouble.

Ashby gets Brandon Lowe to chase two pitches low and outside for a strikeout, so now exits at 81 pitches for Ryan Middendorf. Bases loaded, 1 out.

Ugh really? Why are they doing this to him. Ruining any confidence. Let him take a breather after 5 solids  IP. Ugh

Meanwhile. Shook struggles in the 5th inning. Walk, single, single. One run in and Mound visit. He may be out?

Why aren't they letting the guys go out with confidence and have some relievers come in with no one on?

TJ Shook was cruising along pretty well: 1 hit, 2 walks, 1 unearned run through 4 innings. But it comes apart a bit in the 5th inning: walk, single, single.

Shane Smith comes in. Shuckers are hitless and trail 2-0, but more runs may come in here.

It must be part of the process: seeing how pitchers handle fatigue. It’s often maddening, since you end up conceding runs without recording outs sometimes, but it’s all part of it. Not just trying to win every game.

Middendorf walked in a run but got the final 2 outs. Ashby with only 4 ER on the afternoon.

Smith got a DP ball to get the first two outs and concede the run, now trying to finish the inning after a walk.

Suckers are Hitless. Gotta get hits to win games.

Well Montgomery has a perfect game going for them. Nashville got no hit earlier this year right?

Biloxi hitters should be too talented to go hitless, but going back to the last few innings of yesterday through today, they have been anemic. Time to break out of the funk boys.

Meanwhile E. Fernandez with a HR to extend the TRats lead, 4-0. Jimenez at 77 pitches for 5 shutout innings. I guess he goes out for the 6th. Maybe he breaks the pattern today.

Nashville still up. Blake Holub on to try to keep the lead in the8th.

Evan Reifert on for Montgomery (former Brewer farm hand), let's see if we can get some hits off him. And then some runs would be nice.

Ian Seymour mercifully exits after 5 perfect innings against Biloxi, as Montgomery brings in old friend Evan Reifert (traded for Mike Brosseau in Nov 2021; dealt with injuries most of 2023).

Heck of a start by RHP Edwin Jimenez. You love to see it. This is a huge early season game for first half Standings purposes. A 4-2 series win would give the T-Rats a lil 1st place separation - push Quad Cities to 2.0 GB and, in the least, keep Beloit and Cedar Rapids at 2.5 GB minimum (pending their results today). Let's close it out!

Have a day Jimenez. He does come out for the 6th, but K, FO, K and he is dealing. 6 IP, 3H, 0BB!, and 7K in 89 pitches.

Cornielle and Jimenez with 2 outstanding weekend starts for the TRats. I doubt he comes back out for the 7th? At almost 90 pitches, I would guess no.  Probably no Yoho available today.
