Can’t take anything away from Renz. He has a very solid debut. Impressive outing. Hopefully part of a nice group of A/ACL pitchers who can develop and advance together- Dorchies, Meccage, Hernandez, Dubanewicz, Tobias, Renz, Mercado.  Nice group of teenagers.

Broughton and Knoth are coming back from TJ too.

Man the homeplate ump @ Augusta miscalculated the count and stole Renz's 7th K - 6 of 7 are swinging btw. Instead, he misses low and walks his 4th batter. Absurd work by the ump there. That can't happen at any level. Runners on 1st and 2nd instead of ending on a punch out with a runner stranded at 2B.

The ump then absolutely squeezes Renz on a K looking to take the count full. Batter bloops it to RF for an RBI. This ump is a tragedy in the 9th. Unreal.

I mean. COME. ON. Already miscalculated a K swinging count. Puts that runner aboard. Then he let's this gorgeous outer black at the knees go for a ball. Joke.Screen Shot 2025-07-29 at 8.04.47 PM.png

Wow umps somehow blew the count. Really. In a real game, 9th inning and everyone including the Augusta announcer believed it was 2-2 and then strike 3.

But the only one who matters is the home plate ump who thought it was 3-1 I don’t make this up then next pitch is a walk 🤷‍♂️

Wasn't that madness? Totally ruined Renz's bottom line. Would have been a clean 7 K 3BB of work. That same ump then stole a K looking to the next batter too at the knees right on the outer black. Absurd work.

I can not express how annoying watching any baseball game is from behind homeplate. I sincerely hope Pensacola gets their OF cam going as this series progresses. Nice to see RHP Bayden Root with some solid early work out of the Pen.

It was frustrating to watch if you couldn’t tell from my incessant posts. Whoops. I was venting a little.

LOL. I went back and read them, yes. I had to go do farm chores before that final inning. I was incredulous. Stanley and Moeller were barking too. Did not sit well.

And, in classic fashion, just as I type that about Root he gives up an absolute bomb on an absolute hanger of an off-speed pitch. That was a terrible pitch. LOL.

And, now Root is getting into that Root groove: Gives up an 0-2 line drive single to CF. Too much plate. Too high for a sinker. Root absolutely does this routinely. Let's hope he can bounce back.

And, in a 1-1 count, Root throws an absolute wild pitch about 3 feet outside and to the backstop. Man, I have seen this scene all too many times with this young man. He works it 2-2. Dig deep Bayden and get out of this mess. Man on second. AND, nope. Root gives up a very hard hit double to the RF wall. 6-2 game. If I'm Ayrault? I'm pulling Root regardless. He doesn't have the stuff.

AND another hit. A groundball up the middle of Vargas' glove. Runners on the corners. Will Bayden Root ever get another out? Stay tuned. 6-2 game. One down. Runners on the corners.

How about a balk? Amazing. What the heck was that? 😅 6-3. Pull this man now, please. He is not ready for this moment. This is painful.

Mercifully, he gets the fly out to RF. Avoids his second balk of the inning and steps off to catch the runner leaving early for 3B. Why would that baserunner do that given Root's struggles? I have absolutely no idea.

Matt Wood has been pulled in the 8th inning - we have a new catcher behind the dish. He took a weird foul or bat somewhere on his arm in the inning before. He was visited by Ayrault but stayed in to finish Root's troubled inning. He is no longer in the game. Hopefully, it is just precautionary and nothing serious.

The Shuckers grabbed a single run on a PB high and inside with C Eric Martinez at the dish. Vargas swung and K'd on a slider low and away. Lara swung and K'd swinging at a sinker in the dirt. Martinez swung at ball 4 in a 3-1 count. He then K'd on the next pitch.

Bowman gave up an oppo inside out squeaker double just inside the RF line. Lead-off man aboard. Nobody out. Shuckers lead 7-3.

Fantastic work by Bo Bowman. He goes two clean innings to close this one out and ends it on a swinging K on a zesty hook. Shuckers win 7-3. That's a 5-1 affiliate day overall.

Anderson plays CF well.  Definitely has the tools to play there.  And his offense is starting to become respectable.

Ten for his last twenty-seven. Starting to get comfortable with full-season ball.
