I cant see Wood overtaking Quero in the near future. I think we keep Contreras next year with Quero in the bigs. Then 2028 is Quero and Wood or Dinges. I could see Wood getting an everyday chance with an injury and running away with it but that is pretty far off. When drafted I thought Wood had a chance to be an AJ Pierzynski style lefty catcher, he is starting to show some of that.

I would be shocked if they trade Contreras. I expect them to go the same route as Adames

Very curious what they do in this situation. Trade him this offseason to get value back or let him walk in FA after 2027 and get a comp pick assuming he gets paid big bucks? Since as of now I’m 90% sure they won’t extend him. Idk if a salary floor implemented in the CBA makes it more likely or not they extend him, maybe.

Also curious what they do with Vaughn next year, assuming he will get between $8-10 mil in arbitration. One year left before unrestricted FA. Bauers likely leaving in FA for a payday at this rate. Do they trade Vaughn this offseason with his value getting higher or do they keep him and pay him one more year before FA? A plethora of new 1B options coming up in AAA/AA as well.

I see Wood as a very good back up catcher option. I don't think he has enough to be a starter, but has been solid behind the dish (2024-2025 in what I watched), and would assume similar this year. Dinges has the highest potential with offense, and athletically he can be a great back stop, the question is will he get the innings/reps to be that, or will his bat force him elsewhere in the field?
Darrien Miller is so intersting given the offense he has this year, but I haven't watched to see if he is passable as a catcher, he was fair and passable for minor league catcher but not anything more than that.

I wouldn't trade Contreras before his free agent year and try to sign him if he's within our budget at that time. I'm not big on Quero as a starter at this point in his injury recovery.

For what its worth, I think Ramon Rodriguez could be a decent backup.
