It's Santos (9-6, 3.66) vs. the newly acquired Zambrano (9-7, 4.43) today. As this is an afternoon game pitched by the Sleepy Vampire, is this even worth listening to?

Besides the giant 6-7 black hole, I guess it could be worse. Overbay moving up in the order? Brilliant!!

Okay, I have been a big fan of Yost from the day they hired him, but........

 

HOW THE #%$%*&@#$*&%$ DOES HELMS START TODAY OVER BRANYAN?!?!?!?!?!?

 

When I saw that I actually threw up in my mouth. Are you kidding me? Look, I don't think Branyan is a savior or anything like that, but doesn't he give the team the best chance to win right now? He only went 3 - for - 5 last night with 2 XBHs. And has played well at 3rd. Sure, sit him, that makes a lot of sense.

I'm officially off the Yost bandwagon if that's the case. His favortism has clouded his judgement beyond the ability to even be reasonable.

 

I guess I shouldn't have said this..........

 

If Helms starts one time in the next week I'll puke.

I was hoping Zambrano was a lefty and I could sigh but give Yost the benefit of the doubt, but he is NOT, and as such, I declare this game a complete traveshamockery. Yost has lost it.

Never mind the fact that in his 3 year splits Branyan has a .937 OPS vs. lefties and a .750-ish OPS vs. righties.

 

There's NO reason that Helms should be starting over Branyan right now.

RoCo, you bring up an interesting point. Maybe Ned finally HAS looked at the stats, and realized that Branyan should only be starting against lefties! It's all so simple!

You know I could give Yost ever so much of a shred of benefit of the doubt at first with Branyan and being skeptical. Playing the guy a couple of days in a row to atleast see what he could do was impressive in it's own small way. And you know when he had drawn like 2 walks and hit a single and a HR in 4 games or whatever while King a whole bunch, I was ready to watch him fade into irrelavance. But after yesterday, there is no concieveable reason short of Russ being incapacitated for him not to be starting. I can't see any logic to it at all. Only some sort of ridiculous loyalty to Helms an possibly justify it.

Well, the way I look at it, I'd like to see Wes Helms get as much playing time as possible, so he continues to fail (which is inevitable) and the brass starts to see that maybe he shouldn't be anything more than a right handed bat off the bench, if that

But... I'm sure the spin after this season and going in to next season will be that Helms was knocked off track with the freak injury in Montreal, and that if that hadn't occurred he would have put up the numbers Ned Yost expects out of him, so he'll open up 2005 at 3B. It's all too predictable.

 

By the way a couple weeks ago when Helms was taken out due to indigestion, Bob Uecker made a wise crack about maybe it was another slick hallway to the clubhouse, so all you morality hall monitors out there should have been emailing Ueck to tell him how out of line he was. I forgot about that until just now.

I stated this in another thread, but I'll say it again today because it's relevant.

 

Ned is going to lose credibility with his players.

 

His number one best quality is being a motivator.

 

But, when they see him playing his OBVIOUS favorite despite having a better option, he's going to lose the respect of his players. When he loses their respect, he won't be able to motivate them, and then he's lost the one attribute that keeps him from being a bad manager.

There's probably a difference between making a crack about a slick hallway and the wet ramp being selected for the all-star game.

Just you wait, Helms is going to go into a streak pretty soon. I will predict Helms will hit at least 3 homeruns in the next year or so.

 

Granted, Branyan could probably do that in a week, but it wouldn't make as impressive a story.
