  1. What I liked about it was the interviews with all the people that were sitting right around Bartman. I had never really heard from those people. I also thought it is fascinating that the guy that gathered the ball after it deflected off of Bartman was paid $100,000 (or whatever it was) for the ball and nobody knows who that guy is.
  2. Borussia Mochengladbach is where Michael Bradley plays for a German squad. Otherwise you might look into playing with a squad near where you're going to be in Germany/Austria.
  3. Anything by Michael Bolton...I celebrate the man's entire catalog.
  4. I'm a little late to the party, so I know some of these might have been discussed already: Black Dynamite - Very funny movie. The intentional snafus and most of the dialogue is great. Zombieland - As stated earlier there a some great scenes including a tremendous cameo, but other parts were very long and drawn out. Cannibal: The Musical: Very disappointing for a Trey Parker film but it has some great moments.
  5. "At the same time, they seem to have less movement on their fastball- although the good sinkerballers/heavy fastballers generally have an over the top type delivery." I generally agree with the over-the-top vs. three-quarters, but there is one major exception: Greg Maddux. He had a tradtional over the top arm slot and had some movement on his two-seam that was amazing.
  6. Exactly. I really don't feel that simply changing a grip will affect a fastball's movement per se. I've always considered 'movement' as more as 'tail' not sink. Some guys just have movement on their fastballs naturally due likely to physical things such as arm slot, release, etc., and for whatever reason lefties seem to have more than righties.I disagree a bit. I've taught a few kids to throw an "amatuer" two-seamer. (I say amatuer because I can't correlate it to a minor/major league level). The main imperative was pressure on the ball and length of the kids fingers to produce some movement rather than a straight even four seam.
  7. It was mentioned before, but I'll say it again in regards to judging players. The parks before the 30s were HUGE. Take a look at the all-time leaders for triples and you'll see that most of them are pre-1930. Homeruns were rare back then because most of them were of the in-the-park fashion.
  8. Check out that sweet Plymouth Duster!
  9. 91 and 92 were good years as well. In '92 we would have been in the playoffs with the expanded format. I still think the 1992 team is why Bud Selig pushed for the wild-card format.
  10. I think Fielder is going to take his talents to South Beach.
  11. With Rick Ankiel's injury last night, I was reminded of a issue I've always wondered what other people thought about. Is it ok to advance an extra base on someone's injury? I see it a lot when a line drive hits a pitcher or an outfielder collides with a wall and the runner just keeps running until someone finally picks up the ball and calls a timeout.
  12. GameCast is strange. Wasn't it just a full count? How can Rickie get caught stealing?
  13. Even Nolan Ryan is a little worried about Ian Snell's pitch count
  14. Does the Pirates manager pay attention to the game? Last night it looked like he was reading a book in the dugout, and now it looks like Snell is going to throw 130 pitches this game/
  15. Buster Olney wrote about it as well. Imagine Reggie Jackson or some of the other power lefties hitting in this stadium instead of Old Yankee Stadium . edit: I wonder if this means the Yankees will pursue every left handed power-hitter they can find. Midseason trade for Dunn perhaps so he can hit 50 HRs in the second half of the year.
  16. I'm not so concerned as to Hardy getting more fastballs per plate apperance. My main concern is the void of production from the middle of the order and the fact that Fielder has been walked almost 1 out of every 5 plate apperances.
  17. That's a good point, but where do you slot Hardy in at? Just flip him and Cameron for now, or try to ride out the storm and hope either Braun, Fielder or Hardy start hitting? One of the other problems I see with the lineup is that Cameron and Hall are hitting in front of two almost sure outs at this point. So we have the number 1 or 2 hitter getting on and the 3,4 and 5 hitters stranding them or the 6 or 7 hitters getting on with 8 and 9 stranding them.
  18. With our three, four, and five guys in the lineup being a offensive black-hole, is it time for Macha to tinker with the lineup? I would think Hart or Cameron in the five spot would give a little more protection to Prince who is being walked a lot early on with J.J. not hiting. And if Prince gets going then Braun should get better at bats and the whole lineup improves.
  19. I don't think Suppan's leash has anything to do with his personal performance. If the pitching staff as a whole is struggling, there is no reason to remove Suppan because he has been remarkably durable (save last season). If he's the week spot in the rotation in Mid-May to Mid-June the Brewers might make a move to get another starter.
  20. I know we're all excited about the upcoming Brewers season, but what about our lovely competitors to the South? My predictions: Lou Pinella - During one of the Cubs 40-game losing streaks, Sweet Lou chokes an umpire to death after a marginal call on the basepaths in an attempt to "motivate the team." Carlos Zambrano - In the first filmed example of spontaneous combustion, Big Z's head explodes after a pitch 4 inches off the plate is mysteriously dubbed a ball. Ryan Theriot - "The Riot" finally lives up to his named and is detained at a newly reopened Gitmo after starting the great Chicago Riot of '09. Kosuke Fukudome - Fans start mispronouncing only the first part of Kosuke's last name, and laud the Japanese import by shouting it at him whenever he takes the field. Milton Bradley - Simply goes bat-poopy insane. Also, I believe Blago is going to end up the owner of the Cubs and arrange for campaign contributions for players to use such things as the dugouts and locker rooms.
  21. When I look at how the Brewers are constructed this year, I see both positive and negative change. I like the way the bullpen is put together and think C-Vill will emerge as a stud. The lineup has a lot of pop and I think Hart batting second will allow him to flourish. Yo and Parra are tough and determined and Bush has looked great. Still I'm going to have to temper my optimism this year and shave a couple wins off my prediction and say the Brewers will only win 158 to 160 games this year. Also, all the Cubs pitching staff's arms will simultaneously fall off. This, coupled with more testicular tortions in their outfield will cause them to fall to 0-162 this year.
  22. I think the fans are rightly showing their frustration. The front office and ownership has implied through actions and words that this is a year for the Brewers to be really competitive. And although I understand that we're only 1.5 games out right now, the team blowing leads and letting opportunities slip away to gain or put ground on the Cubs is really frustrating. Also, to imply that the fans haven't been "supportive" of the team is ridiculous because fans are buying tickets and merchandise in record numbers. The Brewers are just victims of their early success in April and May and the lingering effect that's had on the rest of season.

  24. I'm rooting for mosquitos carrying a non-lethal form of the west nile virus, flu-bearing children, and the injury-bug.
  25. A young Christopher (Ronnie) Walken?
