Gotta be about time to post what the Brewers OPS is with runners in scoring position in order to say that Milwaukee is not that bad with RISP, right??

 

Before the 0-10 their BATTING AVERAGE was .231, second to last in the NL. The only team worse was Montreal. OPS isn't the greatest stat when talking about being clutch.

OPS still is the greatest stat. We didn't need a hit. A walk would have been just fine. The average still tells only half the story.

 

Guys. Remember Overbay had a terrible at-bat as well. Not just Clark.

If the Brewers were taking walks or even hitting sac flies with RISP with less than 2 outs I wouldnt be knocking on OPS with RISP. But, they aren't. They are sucking big time with Runners on 3rd and nobody out or one out. Yeah, OPS is a nice stat, but don't you think that it is a alarming that we are hitting below .230 with RISP above only Montreal?? Sometimes I think that OPS blinds a lot of smart people. Just like there is more to a hitter than average and hits, OPS isn't a tell all either.

 

Let's face it, does it really matter if a guy is 2-5 with RISP with two singles or 1-4 with a walk and a triple? No, except the guy who walked didnt get the guy in from third with less than two outs.

With that low BA we are still winning. Yes, mostly due to our pitching but the number of comeback wins is due to our offense coming through in other ways than getting hits. When it comes down to it, our offense comes through (most of the time) when we absolutely need it.

 

Would we like a higher BA with RISP? Of course. But it's not the end all stat.

That's what happens when your lineup is full of low batting average hitters.Outside of Overbay,the vast majority of the team is hitting .260 or under.
