would the brewers part with a midlevel prospect for him if the sox pay some money. I think he would be a decent stopgap for us out of the pen.

Awful. The Brewers have not been considered one of the teams in for Contreras, and rightly so. They don't need him. Supposedly, the Dodgers might be interested.

I'd pass on Contreras, even if the salary was picked up by the White Sox.

i just think he had a bad year this year. you never know how a guy responds to being put on a new team...

He's got a career 4.60 ERA... Honestly, I'd even take my chances with "bad cappy" at this point.

He was actually pretty sharp out of the pen the other day throwing 5 shutout innings vs. the Mariners. I've read too that his mind hasn't been right due to the breakup of his marriage recently. Keep in mind also that the teams that were battering him around in July were Boston, Detroit and the Yankees. I don't see any of those still on the Brewer schedule.

 

He's going to start a game later this week. I'd be scouting that one if I were the Brewers.

Is he a FA after this year? If he is I might take a flyer at him, but I'd give up next to nothing. I'd rather bring up a guy like DiFelice or Dickey if we only need a pitcher for 2 weeks or so.

He will get 10 million in '08 and '09. If anyone claims him, the sox will most likely just let him go for nothing. That's gives you an idea of how much everyone believes he has left in the tank.

Yea I saw he is due a ton of money yet in the next few years. I doubt anyone takes a chance on him unless the White Sox pay 75 - 90% of that huge amount.
