  1. Since I can't access EZBoard's database directly, that would be pretty difficult. If people entered their birthdays in a sepearte database that I controlled, it would be possible.
  2. Not sure what happened today, but I restarted the server and it seems to be working again...
  3. If any of you get the paper copy of the Capital Times (out of Madison, WI), there should be a mention of Brewerfan.net in today's edition, in a article by Joe Hart. It doesn't look like they have their online version updated, but i'll post a link when they do.
  4. Still no progress on this front... I'm going to probably end up waiting until a new president / front office has been finalized. If that doesn't happen within the next couple of months, i'll just contact Rick Schlessinger.
  5. No prob... and welcome aboard!
  6. In each forum, there's a "Mark forum read" link. When you click that, the system will know that you've read all threads in that forum.... and the next time you view it, the new thread image (the baseball) will appear to its left....
  7. [ anywho i really like this site so look forward to some dreadful logic and long long rants about nothing. ] dreadful logic and long, long rants about nothing? I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. this is brewerfan.net! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

  9. Let the roster speculation begin! (or continue, actually...)
  10. ATTENTION: LURKERS I know there's quite a few of you out there who wish to remain unknown, and of those people, some of you are perhaps people "in the know". I'm desperately looking for the looseleaf binder known as "The Official Professional Baseball Rules Book". Basically, it details the ins and outs of baseball transactions, and acts as a guide to GM's and the front office. This is different from the "Official Baseball Rule Book", which describes the rules of on-the-field play. If anyone out there can help me acquire this book, I would be very grateful.
  11. If Nunnally could get his SB% in check, he wouldn't be a bad option in RF. More likely that he would be an OK 5th outfielder though.... Still, he was basically a 20/20 guy in AAA last year.
  12. We're currently having some legal problems with the store.... I was working with Sarah Harris (Ulice Payne's assistant), but she left in the whole UP fiasco. I'm having to work with a new set of people now, and everything's a little chaotic.
  13. Well, he's a former first rounder, so he'll always get the nod over another catcher with perhaps slightly better numbers... For some reason, 1st rounders who flame out tend to stick around.
  14. [ I never am able to make it anyway, but chilly never hurt anyone, Brian. ] http://www.dvdfile.com/images/stills/200x150/terminator2/freeze.jpg
  15. I have a feeling that this could very well be a "nugget". Something about picking up a pitcher who has stuff, after having a rotten year. For some reason, the 6 year guys I thought would be good last year (like Wilton Veras) turned out to be trash, and it was the Estrella's and Kolb's of the world who turned into something useful. Time will tell of course, and i'm sure i'll have all the wrong instincts about these guys... otherwise, i'd be a scout http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. The fanfest page is now up at: www.brewerfan.net/events/2004_fanfest.jsp The schedule gods aren't smiling as much as they did last year. Here is the best date combination I have found so far: April 24 - St. Louis @ Milwaukee 1:05 April 25 - Wisconsin @ Beloit 2:00 For those of you who aren't familiar, tradition has us taking in a Brewers game on Saturday, driving down to Beloit after the game and having a few drinks, and then watching Beloit on Sunday afternoon with a catered picnic (beer included as well as soft drinks and food). Having fanfest this early leads us to the problem of it perhaps being a bit chilly. The advantage to having fanfest earlier in the summer as opposed to later is: - There are no Saturday day games in Milwaukee as we get deeper into the season - The Beloit ticket price comes down $1 a person for April and May. Thoughts?
  17. Sometime after the the beginning of next year, i'm assuming. It all depends on how much free time I have, and how many problems this new portal architecture will give me.
  18. I don't really care much about Jacob Cruz and Chris Coste... they're insurance policies. Magruder, Durrington, and Bowles are more investment type players. Magruder and Durrington had high ceilings and are still Podsednik-type young. Bowles was a 50th round pick, but it doesn't seem like his "stuff" is in question. I think we're going to like most of the minor league free agent signings this off-season. It's the one area that the Brewers actually have an advantage over most other teams. We can cut them a little more money, and the opportunity for them to possibly play in Milwaukee is much higher.

  20. Well, hopefully there'll be enough pitching talent from within the organization to make the Indy fans happy....
  21. [ Could I suggest a spot to save my favorite links. ] Consider it official.
  22. Magruder's a corner OF who was with the Texas system. How soon will it be until we see the all-former-Texas-scrapheap OF? After the Podsednik waiver claim, I feel optimistic.
  23. I've been busy at work on the next version of Brewerfan.net (we'll call it 3.0)... As the site has grown and evolved, I've noticed that the site (referring to the non-message board aspect of things) has grown into what's referred to as a "portal". Basically, fans, players, media, and family come here to get the latest on the organization. With such a diverse group of users comes a problem (and an opportunity). We'd like to offer the opportunity for users to customize their content to turn this site into _exactly_ what it needs to be for them. For example, a player's parent may only want to see information relating to a certain player... Or perhaps a die-hard Stars fan only wants to see info related to the Stars (or perhaps former Stars players as well). Or a die-hard fan of the organization may want to see as much information on the home page as is possible. Or perhaps the casual fan wants to add a stock ticker, news feed, or weather forecast and turn brewerfan.net into their general home page. Content on each page would be able to be moved up, down, left, right, to subpages, added or subtracted at will. It's also our hope that every aspect of each portlet would be able to be customized as well, leaving no stone unturned... The following is a listing of portlets that I have finished or am near finishing: BASEBALL-RELATED PORTLETS Recent Articles ---- Display the newest original Brewerfan.net articles customizers: - change the number of articles to display (1-5) defaults: - shows the newest 3 articles on the home page Recent Transactions ---- Display the newest transactions customizers: - change the number of transactions to display (1-10) - pick the teams you wish to see transactions for defaults: - shows the newest 3 transactions on the home page - shows the newest 3 transacstions on each team page (relevant to each team) Daily Brew ---- Display the newest Daily Brew entries customizers: - change the number of Daily Brew entries to display (1-5) ArticleCrawler ---- Display the newest ArticleCrawler entries customziers: - change the number of ArticleCrawler entries to display (1-5) - pick the teams you wish to see ArticleCrawler entries for Schedule ---- Shows all games for the current month, allowing you to scroll forward and back through months customizers: - pick the teams you wish to see games for defaults: - shows the schedule for all teams on the home page - shows the scehdule for individual teams on the team page Brew82 ---- Display the newest entries from the Brew82 weblog Al's Ramblings ---- Display the newest entries from Al's weblog FantasyInfoCentral.com/Brewers --- Display the newest Brewers-related entries from the FantasyInfoCentral.com weblog Player Search ---- Allows you to search for Major League players (via ESPN) or Minor League players (via Baseball America) Customizers: - pick which search boxes you wish to show Defaults: - Show on home page Team Info: ---- Shows basic info given a team Customizers: - pick which team you want to see info for Defaults: - Displayed on each team page NON-BASEBALL-RELATED PORTLETS Weather ---- Displays the weather given a zip code customizers: - pick a zip code you wish to see the weather for defaults: - shows the weather on the home page (pick your zip code) - shows the weather on each team page (given the team's city's zip code) Stocks ---- Displays the Price, Volume and Change information given a stock symbol customizers: - pick the stock symbols for the companies you wish to see information for - pick the columns you wish to view (Price, Volume, Change) Various News Feeds ---- Displays news headlines from various news sources: (Apacheweek, BBC Front Page News, BBC Technology News, BBC UK News, BBC World News, Mozilla, XMLHack... more coming soon) customizers: - show title description (yes/no) - open links in popup window (yes/no) - number of items to show - show text input (yes/no) - show item description (yes/no) Web Search ---- Allows you to utilize various search engines: (Yahoo, Google, Altavista, Dejanews, Excite, Hotbot, Infoseek, Webcrawler, Freshmeat) ------- The following is a listing of portlets i'd like to create: - scoreboard - individual player tracker - my favorite links Please respond with questions... comments... etc EDIT: Corrected spelling error.
