This I think is our first official mention in a major city's newspaper: prepsports.stltoday.com/s...enDocument The area's top prospect is former DeSmet pitcher Bob Zimmerman, now at Southwest Missouri State. A righthander, Zimmerman is 6 feet 5, 228 pounds and ranked as the No. 13 college prospect by Baseball America, No. 24 by TeamOneBaseball and No. 36 in college and No. 60 overall by Brewerfan.net. You should be pretty proud of yourself, Patrick. It sounds like you obviously had one of the best pre-draft coverages in the nation... enough for the post-dispatch to use you as a reference.

I'm assuming they're pulling batting orders out of a hat, at this point, to try to get something sparked. -

Are they throwing underhanded to Lou, or is he this good?? There must be thought about sending VandenBerg to the Desert and Lou to Beloit... If I can catch a Gwynn/Fielder/Palmisano game, my summer will be complete. Just for grins, Patrick's draft blurb on Lou: Extremely athletic catcher that shows a strong, accurate arm. Is very active behind the plate with good footwork. Needs work as a hitter, but shows good hitting actions with decent power going the other way and the potential to hit for a good average. Florida Atlantic signee for the '04 season. From Broward head coach Bob Deutschman: "I can assure you that you will be happy with the selection of this player. Hands down, Lou is the best baseball player that I have had the good fortune of coaching. He is an exceptional athlete, hits for average and power, blocks exceptionally well and throws well. He has great work ethic and maturity and is without question, ready to be a professional." If his defense is as good as advertised..... YOWZA -

Louisville (Reds) 8, Indianapolis 5 indyindians.com game summary: LOUISVILLE, KY -- The visiting Indianapolis Indians dropped the first of a two-game series from Louisville's Slugger Field 8-4 to the Louisville Bats on Saturday evening. Louisville batted around in the bottom of the sixth inning, sending ten batters to the plate while scoring six runs in the inning as the Bats improved their record to 8-2 against the Tribe this year. The Indians jumped on the board first, as Bill Hall opened the game with a double down the left field line and later scored on Jim Rushford's RBI single two batters later. The Bats struck back in their half of the first inning as third baseman Brandon Larson launched a two-out, two run homer in the bottom of the inning off Indians starter David Manning that put Louisville on top 2-1. Manning (5-5) flirted with disaster throughout his five-plus innings of work, as he allowed the leadoff batter to reach base safely in five out of the six innings he started. The Indians took the lead in the top of the fifth inning by sending eight batters to the plate in scoring three runs. With two outs and no one on base, Hall started the rally with a walk and then scored on Jason Conti's single to center when an errant relay throw allowed Hall to tie the score at 2-2. With Conti at second, Rushford lined an RBI single to give the Indians a 3-2 lead, then scored on Mark Smith's RBI single. Louisville stormed back in the bottom of the sixth, as Manning was unable to record an out before leaving with the bases loaded and no outs for reliever John Foster. Manning allowed three straight singles to start the inning before issuing a walk to pinch hitter Jason Jennings bringing home Jason Maxwell from third. Felipe Lopez then greeted Foster with a two-RBI double to right field to give the Bats the lead for good at 5-4. Louisville then scored three more runs in the inning on a two-RBI double by Ruben Mateo and a single by Larson that scored Mateo with the bats sixth run of the inning. Scott Randall picked up the win pitching six innings for Louisville, improving his record to 7-1 on the year. Ryan Wagner, the Cincinnati Reds' top pick in this past June's draft, pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Louisville. The Indians (41-53) and Bats (58-38) will conclude the two-game series on Sunday evening when Wes Obermueller (0-0, 4.50) pitches for Indianapolis against Louisville's Lance Davis (5-7, 4.30) at 5:15 p.m. The Indians will then have three days off for the All-Star break before heading off to Rochester for a four-game series on Wednesday. Norfolk (Mets) 4, Indianapolis 3 Indyindians.com game summary: INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Indians (41-52) dropped the final game of an eight-game homestand 4-3 to the Norfolk Tides (46-47) Friday night as tempers flared at Victory Field. The Tides held off a late Indians rally to earn a split of the four-game series as Jason Middlebrook pitched six shutout innings to earn the win for the Tides. Middlebrook (5-6) allowed five hits, walked two, and struck out three in holding the Tribe off of the scoreboard for six innings. The Tides offense, meanwhile, jumped on Tribe starter Derek Lee (0-2) for one run in the top of the first inning and two more in the top of the second. Tribe reliever Ben Ford came on for Lee to start the top of the sixth inning, and was promptly greeted by Matt Watson's pinch-hit solo home run that made the score 4-0. It was Watson's third home run in as many games. Wilton Veras led off the bottom half of the seventh inning with his second home run of the season off Tides reliever Phil Seibel. The Indians added two more runs in the inning when Steve Scarborough scored on Mark Smith's pinch-hit triple, and when Smith scored on Bill Hall's one-out ground ball to short, bringing the score to within 4-3. Tempers flared in the eighth inning when Tribe reliever Roberto Giron hit Watson with a pitch. As the two exchanged heated comments, Norfolk manager Bobby Floyd was ejected. Tides catcher Joe Depastino, who was called out on strikes to end the inning, was tossed from the game two batters later. Things remained heated in the bottom of the eighth. After two men were out, Veras stepped to the plate against Heath Bell. Bell's 0-1 pitch sailed far inside and Bell was immediately ejected. Acting manager Al LeBoeuf was also thrown out of the game. The Tribe had a chance to even the score in the bottom of the ninth against Tides reliever Ed Almonte, as Almonte hit leadoff batter Cody McKay with a pitch, but after a sacrifice by Scarborough, McKay was stranded on second as Almonte picked up his 17th save of the season. Both benches cleared as the game ended, but the umpires separated the teams before any further altercation could develop. Norfolk's first baseman Jorge Toca hit safely in his first three at-bats Friday to bring his streak to seven consecutive base hits. He grounded into a fielder's choice in the seventh and finished the night 3-for-4 with one RBI. The Indians travel to Louisville for a brief two-game series on Saturday and Sunday before taking off for the All-Star break on Monday. David Manning (5-4, 3.86) will start on Saturday for the Tribe against Scott Randall (6-1, 3.79).
